Question on RT-S SE5

I am thinking of buying a 2011 RT-S SE5. I presently have a Gold Wing Motor Trike, which is certainly different. I rode a demo auto and liked it.

Are later models having any recall problems, etc. I would appreciate on how hard to change oil and filters. Mileage. Maintenance problems. etc. Thanks in advance.

There is no recalls on the 2011 that I know of but they haven't been out long enough to give you a good answer on that. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

Changing oil in not too bad on the RT. Here a "How To" on doing it.

LaMont - you oughta do a Fred H and make some DVDs

You'd sell a lot of them the way Fred did.

George,I do not think that light maintenance is no more difficult on the Spyder then your wing. Having had many brands of bikes threw the years I have found Spyder to be the most comfortable ride of any thing I have ever rode.
How ever, I do not like the way they re-act on windy days or around a semi.
Also big adjustment from your wing RPM wize.Spyder engine out on open road must be turning at least 5000rpms. I stay in 4th gear up(5500rpm) to 60mph.Your wing is much like my Voyager two wheeler that just floats along at 2800 rpms. This take's some getting used to. Low speeds around town I might slug along at 3500rpms. J Miller

Thanks LaMont and all for your inputs. Hey, changing the oil on my Wing is much simpler. I can do it without removing anything and not jacking it up. Okay, I realize we are talking oranges and apples...just my inpit. Changing the oil/filter on the Spyder is like my Burgman 650....a real chore....

I asked my sweet wife of 52 years if I should get a red or blue RT-S. She said "get an apartment!". They just don't understand, do they? ha ha

George, I think there are some on this forum that leave the belly pan off after removing it for the first time they due and oil an filter job.one side panel just pulls off no big deal there. Maybe wife would drive it if you buy auto one. My wife wanted me to get auto shift one but I can not handel that clunkee down shift that they have. Time comes she will learn on the manual one.

Hey George if it ever warms up again, I can ride over (or we can meet somewhere) and you can poke around on my 2010 RT-S (I live near Medina)... so far I have only had the dealer in Lytle do the oil change (first one as I only have 900 miles on my Spyder).

GypsyBill, Come to the Texas Trike Reunion in Kerrville, April 14-16. All trikes are welcome.

I have a outstanding guy do my Gold Wing trike oil and filter changes...he has a modified automobile rack and we put the Wing up six feet and can walk under it and check nuts, leaks (none so far) and other stuff. He has a auto tire changer, full garage and is very good.

I used to change it, but with the trike, it is easier on me for him to do it...his wife gives me cake and coffee while I watch...ha ha

I will share his name with you if you are interested. He lives on Hwy 16 just north of Bandera.....it could be very handy for you. You pass his place on your way to Bandera....

Once you spend some time on an RTS, you will wonder why you did not start earlier. You can crowd it in ways you could never think about with a regular trike. It is the finest 4 wheeler, er three wheeler you ever rode!\

Jester, I said the same thing about my Motor Trike. I rode my '02 four years and then triked it...I love it, but who can live with only one trike? ha ha I rode a 2010 RT-S SE5 demo and really enjoyed it. I plan on keeping my Wing...unless someone really has to have it.

The Motor Trike saved my bacon in west Texas. I was on a dirt back road and a woman came over the hill in the middle of the road. I took to the ditch, it was wide and six feet deep...I went down and up the other side, downshifted and back down and out on the road...IF I had been on a two wheeler...I would still be there...ha ha
