There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Question...has any guy ridden passenger with their girl/wife 2-up?

I don't mean to sound chauvenestic, but this question arises from a comment my girlfriend made to me a month or so ago, and i've been wonderin' ever since. She offered to drive the Spyder coming home from a lengthy trip to give me a break (she said it half jokingly) and I vehemently said "no, thank you". When she asked why, I realized it was merely because I didn't feel "comfortable" in the passenger seat with her driving because of image related reasons. Although there is nothing wrong whatsoever with a man being driven on a motorcycle by a woman, I have never seen it...which is what brings me to my question. Have any of you guys out there been the passenger when riding 2-up with your better half? Has anyone seen this on the road(s)?

My wife has said several times that she does not want to ryde the Spyder. I even tried the "what if something happens to me?" Her reply was "that is what a taxi is for", so I gave up. Now my 21 year-old Daughter, that is a different story. I won't teach her, as I can't afford another byke :roflblack:

Riding Passenger

I never rode passenger only because my wife refused to get licensed. There were times that I wished she had driven when I was plain beat and could have used a break. I'm real comfortable in my roll as a man that having a woman drive would not bother me.

Yep, I ride passenger behind my wife nowadays when she wants to drive. I've been riding since 1960 and only about four months ago was my first time ever to ride as a passenger. It's okay now even though it did take a little getting used to.

I have ridden pillion many times when we first purchased the RT and as she was learning. I am sure we received some funny looks but who cares...I am not that insecure in my manhood. I kid her that I now have designated driver if I want a cocktail with lunch. :-)

Looks like you stirred up a little emotion

Well Spyder Tony, it appears that this little question has stirred up quite the range of emotions and has shown the true colors of many of the members of this forum.
Personally I truly enjoy being the passenger and I also enjoy driving but I am not so sure that I would enjoy driving if you were behind me. ;)
Lucky for us our second :spyder:is on its way and the choice to ride or drive is no longer in question! :ohyea:

50 50

My girlfriend has more time on a bike that I do. So when I was her inking about buying the RT, I told her that I would only buy it if she drove 50% of the time. We have 4000 miles in a little over 2 months and I think we both have about 2000 miles in the front. She is an incredible driver, an my biggest complaint is I want to fall asleep in the back, have caught myself dozing quite often back there. So those of us secure in our manhood can ryde in back as easy as in th front. :roflblack:

i know who this is, coming out of lurk mode huh! Great meeting you last night

Yup, do it all the time. I don't have a problem with it and really don' t care what others may think or say!!! As someone has said, it's nice to sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Ridin "B _ _ _ _" .... doesn't mean what you think !

I have no problem ridin' "BUDDY" with my wife. It's nice to be a passenger just to sit back and enjoy the ride ! Don't worry guys......... it won't hurt your image or your ego. ;)

Now I have a question....has any guy ridden with another guy as a passenger/driver?

With all of this concern about riding with a woman driving your spyder.....I am smiling. What is more bothersome for you? :opps: Riding behind a woman or is it equally a problem if you have to take a male friend home from the bar or give him a lift if he has problem with his bike? :dontknow:

I would ask, why not ride behind a female, if you have to ride behind anybody. Why not two of the same gender ? All kinds of reasons for it and none of anybodys business except theirs.
I rode behind a female the other day. She has been asking about the spyder for a couple months (rides her own two wheel). We went to a parking lot. she did just fine. I rode behind her a little bit to go eat.
To me, this makes about as much sense as what you ride, makes who you are.
To each their own, just my opinion

I dont worry about image or ego, I'm just worried about the ditches. Lol

Interesting thread... Probably deserves a poll... Answer to consider could be:
  • No Way!
  • I've don't it once and will never do it again.
  • Only when teaching someone.
  • Only on long trips.
  • Sure, what's the big deal?

My answer is NO and it has nothing to do with the sex of the other driver/rider. I can count on my fingers the number of times I have ridden as a passenger in/on any vehicle and I have driven everything from 2 to 18 wheels. To be honest it scares the :cus: out of me being a passenger. Last time I was a passenger was a bus ride from VA to TX and rode on 4 buses on that trip because 3 of them wrecked. :yikes:

Secret is out

i know who this is, coming out of lurk mode huh! Great meeting you last night

I have watched all these posts for several months  They can be very informative and at times very funny.

It was very nice to meet you as well. I am sorry that I did not get a chance to meet your girlfriend. Perhaps we can schedule a ride and you and Spyder Tony can both be passengers :roflblack:

About 50/50 and I enjoy it. I have even taken a nap back there. I took some guff from my friends at work who ride Harleys about riding bitch, and I told them that I am sercure in my manhood and I have nothing to prove to them:sour:
I like the fact that I can take a brake from driving and have my wife take over. In fact I just sold my Harley and we are looking at upgrading the ST-L to a 2014 RT-L.:)

Hi Tony,
My husband rides a Harley StreetGlide. After a long day on the road he parks it at our hotel and rides behind me to dinner and for an after dinner ride. He has no problem with it. We have seen several other couples riding the same. If it's an ego thing, overcome it. You might find you enjoy relaxing in the passenger seat.
