There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Question about Hindle exhaust

I am wanting to put a Hindle on my RSS. I have read through thread after thread but I am still a bit concerned about doing it. I have read a lot of post that indicate you don't need a JUice box or power commander as long as you don't change the air filter. But it seems the people changing just the exhaust tend to experience backfires, popping, sputtering, etc. Is this more prevelant with the older models? Mine is a 2012. I plan to keep it for a long time so I certainly don't want to do damage running lean. I also live in Texas and it gets pretty hot in the summer. I saw one comment that a hot climate might not be good to run a Hindle. Dont want to spend the money on a power commander and have to fiddle with settings all the time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

HINDLE

I had a Hindle on my 08 GS, that was stock.....didn't have any problems with it. I'm an old goldwinger so I thought it was a little loud for my taste......I plan to bring it to Spyderfest to sell, that way there's no shipping ....it's kind of heavy. Mike....

Just one of the many who gave up on the Hindle. I have an '08 and can't say whether your '12 will be different. Eventually the Hindle was backfiring all over the place. Engine was rough. Couldn't stand it. Went back to the OEM muffler. Have been quite happy. Didn't notice much mileage difference when I had the Hindle. So, don't miss it. Don't miss the noice either. It was fatiguing even though I didn't realize it.

I just installed a hfm pipe and love it. I have a 2012 rs se5 and it runs great. Does not miss or runs bad and the extra power is great and the sound is perfect. With the pipe they send a card so if you do have power commander it has starting points and the pipe was half the price of the hindle!!!!!!

I thought about the HMF but figure if BRP sells Hindle I might not have warranty issues later. Also read that Hindle opens it up a little less than others. That may be why BRP went with Hindle.

Any time you change something about the motor it is a good idea at least check the computer to ensure, not only that you get more HP but, that the change is not costing you gas mileage and/or longevity IMHO. I really wish I could get something with a deeper sound to it, but I don't want a loud pipe. Would never complain about a little extra power either :D

I talked to the dealer were I bought the spyder about putting on a different pipe and they insured me I would not void the warranty. The pipe sounds great it has a nice deep ton to it.

Let me know how loud it is? If I could get a pipe with that deep tone that actually made my spyder quieter, I would do it in a heartbeat. Thanks for the info:thumbup:

It is louder then the factory but a lot quieter then my friends two brothers pipe... On the highway its not that bad at all. Going out this week with wife she will be the one to say if it is loud..:)

2012 w/Hindel

I have a 2012 RS and put in a K&N air filter and the Kindel muffler. It is louder than I expected but I still like it. More power mileage is a bit better but it does pop when using the engine compression to slow down on down hills. There are some U-tube videos with sound of the many mufflers available and it sounded best for me and the can am connection was a plus. Worked too many years with warranties a first question was usually does it have a pipe.

First off all of todays fuel injected high compression engines from the factory come running verry lean for emissions testing.
Any time you make changes to the intake or exhaust on these machines you further the lean condition and cause decell pop or even a chance that the engine could run hotter with the lack of cylender cooling (less fuel)
That being said by adding a fuel modifier and having the proper setting the engine will be much happier and last longer. i Have a 2012 RSS SM5 two Brothers and Kewl metal filter kit and without the Juice box Pro it ran poor as well as had decel pop. The pipe was first lean and pop than the filter kit and not happy at all with performance,i added the JBP set to PC5 Map and she is sweet with lots of power and better milage no pop.
The Hindle is in my opinion over priced with rivit problems and others are to your liking price and sound good luck enjoy the ride.

I'm sure you are probably an expert in this area .....But .....BRP sells the Hindle, and therefore recommends it as a performance enhancement. BRP does not sell Juice boxes or Fuel modifiers etc. and those items very well could VOID the Warranty..........just sayin.....Mike...

I have Hindle muffler, Kewl metal air intake and power commander - sounds great and has real good performance. Random decompression pops and down shifting during warm up - once in running temp no issues. Love the setup

The Hindle is designed and marketed to be used with the Spyder RS. With no other modifications the Spyder should be able to adjust the mixture to an adequate, but EPA lean mixture...under most conditions. Addition of hi-flo air filters, low-restriction intakes, or similar mods will likely result in a dangerously lean condition, and should be avoided without a fuel increase. Operation in high altitudes or high ambient temps may do so, too. The Spyder mixture is on the ragged edge, and the RS mapping has little leeway in its programming. Also be aware that performance gains will be minimal without the ability to add additional fuel to the engine. The Hindle does have a relatively short life in service, as was noted. It is a means of getting a little more noise, if that turns your crank, but it has its limitations when used alone.
