Question About Gasoline Octane, Ethanol-Non Ethanol

Just hit 1000 miles on WALL E. :thumbup: I had been running reg gas and been getting 37 mpg. Last two tanks have been with prem. 93. My mpg has jumped to 39. :hun: Is it possible that the prem gave me better mpg's? Another question? I just filled up again, 93 was not available. I saw a pump that was non-ethanol 91, at $4.50/gal.. :yikes: I said WTH, filled up with it. Is it worth it to use the non-ethanol for .$30 more per gal.? :dontknow: Tom :trike:

What I understand is if you can get 91 pure gas it will do better in mpg then that og ethanol added to gas

in my truck I see mileage drop when using blending... ET can also rot rubber... be sure YoUR machine is user friendly

Non Ethanol gas is not common where I live. It can be found but there is no way I could use it all the time even if i wanted to. As they say, it is what it is. I do know that E85 is about 30% less efficient than 100% gas. I tried it in my car that was a flex fuel vehicle and my mileage dropped from 29 to 23. this was on a tank full when taking a trip. As soon as I filled up with 10% the mileage increased right back to 29 almost like you flipped a switch.

come on..it's a $1.80 per tankful and better for Wall-E. Always good to use the best. Non ethanol high octane or the closest thing to it. It's not only the mileage but how it helps the engineperform and last...jmo..:thumbup:hyea:

On my last 3 tanks, I got 31, 31, and 32 mpg on my 2013 RT-S, using 87 octane non ethanol. This is the best mpg I have ever gotten. I have used 91 and never got better than 28. I do not notice any drop off in performance. I have 6,800 miles of happy riding.

We were on a ride on the way home Sunday night. Spotted a Mobil Station run by a local supermarket. Electronic sign said we have non-ethanol gas. We were about 16 miles from home, so I pulled in. Only pump with the non-ethanol was the 91 octane. So I filled up, 3 gallons worth. My last 2 fill ups were with BP prem.. At my usual station. :thumbup: Tom :trike:

I sort of noticed that up here in the NorthEast; non-ethanol fuel seems to only be available in these types of locations...

I'm with you on this; ran 87 for nearly 32K miles on my '11 after trying a few tanks of 91 and could tell no difference. I guess if one can feel a performance increase with 91 and its worth it to that person, then that's the way to go. For me, I've never been convinced that premium is necessary. I've done the same with the 1330Ace and am sticking with 87. $2 a tank more doesn't work for me.

On my old 08 I charted the MPG just to see if premium was worth it or not, since that engine did not recommend premium. When using the higher octane gasoline, my gas mileage went down noticeably.

Of course, this is in Commiefornia where the gasoline is more expensive and the blends are more suspect.

According to an article I read sometime back by Consumers Reports, by volume, ethanol contains 20% less energy than gasoline.

Rode over 600 miles with my wife on the back over Memorial weekend and averaged over 34 mpg. My best ever! All with 87 non-ethanol. 2013 RT-S
