• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Question about Garmin 660 that BRP offers

garmin

I have the 660 (bought it seperatly and the mount and harness) did it myself and have had no problems at all. I listen to audio books all the time so I transfer it to my truck when not on the bike. OK the only problem i have had is sometimes it doesn't see the 6 gig micro card I have in it and I have to turn it off and back on to get it to recognize it. Other than that I like it. Like the fact that you can have your gloves on when pushing buttons also,

BTW, I have never had an issue with the cradle on my 660(4 years) and believe me it has been wet.

Let me clarify. I didn't mean that the cradles were crap as a whole, but don't be surprised if when you start to have problems, the problems disappear when you change cradles. I'm on my second cradle in two years and the current one is beginning to act up with inconsistent connectivity. ...Don

P.S. Garmin will tell you they have not had problems with their cradles. Don't believe it.

Absolutely! Contact cleaning is the remedy for many electronic gadgets.
I've been doing this for a long time with just a Q-tip and a little dab of rubbing alcool.
I do this on my cameras, wireless phones, cell phones in fact on anything electrical I have.
Some people use W-D-40 to do the same thing. I've had serious issues with that stuff around
guns so I would not use it around delicate electrical connections.

BTW, I never had any problems with my GPS either. And I've been caught in the rain quite a few times.

Has anyone tried some (plastic & electronics safe) contact cleaner?

Scotty, I've tried that and I even took a suggestion from Lamont a couple of years ago and tried a pencil eraser. Additionally, I bought a new battery thinking that might be the cause. I did all the updates by Garmin.

Mind you it works. It's just that after awhile I start hearing static, and then the voice and sound disappears. When that happens, it will not turn off when I shut down the power supply, i.e., pulling the plug from the outlet.

I'll figure it out sooner or later......The "shimming" has helped a lot.

Not shutting down when you pull the plug indicates that the problem lies in the Garmin itself, not the cradle, IMO. If it is a crack in the circuit board, a loose connection, or a bad component, the shimming may put a little pressure on it, making better contact indirectly. Sounds like time for a repair.

CLEANER'S Locking GPS Mounts for Garmin 660

Scotty, The only cleaner that I will let touch my Harley or Spyder is called (( Purple Slice )) I use it on Plastic chrome paint. And my helmet face shield, Plus I have made my own Lock for the Garmin 660 mount. I went to a real good hardware store with a wide selection of small screws with unusual heads. By that I mean a rounded head with special tool to remove it, something your not going to have in your tool kit or pocket. I drilled and threaded the hole and put the screw in! Now you can push the side button all you want, and the GPS is staying put! Now if a guy really wants to steal it, they can try. But they better hope I don't hear my phone pager go off from the alarm, and he runs faster then a .40cal Glock that's always on my hip.

I'm still old school with my Garmin 550 ($350 new) and aftermarket mount ($49) works great and I get XM radio with the extra ant ($99) added. All added up to around $500.
