• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Considering that California does not require a motorcycle or 3-wheel classification to operate a Spyder, when an individual in this category is travelling by Spyder in a state that does require an extra classification, can they be ticketed, or do other states accept the CA license valid as is? Is this a grey area? :dontknow:

Any other State has to abide by your State valid Licence....No Problem...

Correct. From an enforcement perspective, CHP and local Leo's are only worried about excess speed and light/signs. They'll run your plate/you and if your clean...you have a 50/50 of driving away without a ticket. They probably won't even check your endorsement lol. They watch you closely... But they are looking at your bike 😊
 
This is a yes and no question. Some states have an agreement to honor each others licensing laws. Some states will not honor California's three-wheel non MC law. For example Texas and Calif. have no such agreement. Delaware, I believe, has the same such three-wheel law or non-law if you will. I don't know if Delaware's law is respected in all states. Bottom line, no harm no foul. I'm going to travel to Spyderfest in about a month. I do not intend to test the law. But Spyderfest or Bust here I come!

I would think that reciprocity would not be a handshake deal. I'll start researching how/where states would list such reciprocity. For instance, I am pretty sure that no states have a reciprocity agreement when it comes to the helmet law. "If in Rome... you must do as the Romans." (enforcement is another discussion)

IMO if one doesn't wear a helmet they are an idiot whether it is required or not.

Maybe I just have a unique perspective though since my dad died because of a head wound in a motorcycle accident.
 
Drivers are normally required to obtain a license from their state of residence (military excluded), and ALL states recognize each other's licenses for TEMPORARY visitors subject to normal age requirements. A state MAY also suspend an individual's driving privilege within its borders for comitting traffic violations.

Sorry to hear about your father. I just used that as an example of reciprocity. Wearing a helmet definitely reduces the possibility of head injury.
Some people choose to make less than perfect decisions at times, without being idiots. I personally believe that when God calls us home, a helmet, a bullet proof vest
or the best Dr. will not sway His decision. (OMO) I'd hope to think you do not think your father was an idiot, even if he wasn't wearing a helmet. (again, OMO, no arguement or affront intended.)
 
I don't know if he was wearing a helmet or not. I never had the heart to ask my mom after I started riding. It was very early 80s, so I'd be inclined to think probably not. But the idiots in this case was the road construction company that placed out the construction barrels leading him into oncoming traffic.
 
LEGALITIES

Do you think the people in California who own an operate Motorcycles and Trikes and Spyders know they can't drive them out of State Legally because California doesn't license them ??????.....Get real.....Mike....:gaah:
 
It's no different than if you were to rent a car in another state, or even another country for that matter. As long as you have a valid license, for the vehicle you are driving, from the state you reside in, you can drive (that same type of vehicle) in another state or country. You must, however, follow the rules of the road for the state/country you are driving in. So if a state has a no helmet/seat belt law, you can ride/drive without a helmet/seat belt; conversely, if you live in a state with a no helmet/seat belt law and want to ride thru another that HAS a helmet/seat belt law, you MUST wear a helmet, seat belt, etc.

Don't sweat it, follow the laws of the road for the state you're riding in and enjoy the scenery.
