This past Wednesday BRP was hosting a ride from Extreme Powersports in Hammond Indiana to Quaker Steak in Portage Indiana. I left work Early in the day and took a nice easy ride on the back roads to get to Extreme. Got there an hour early due to the time difference - so what's a guy to do but ride some more!
I must say that in that part of Indiana the riding isn't that great - no country areas like Michigan has most everywhere. Finally at 7:00 or so I got back to Extreme and was glad to see other Spyders waiting to go for the ride. Spyderlover 'Steelers58' and his wife were there as well as some fairly new Spyder owners. Plenty of good conversation and looking over each others mods. Got to see the Corbin fairing and Glowryders up close on Steelers58's Spyder. I must say the Corbin fairing looks much better in person than in pics. Nice folks - nice looking Spyder!
One nice thing I was able to do for a few hours of my Indiana riding was to keep the helmet in the trunk. Riding with the CHAD and sunglasses only was absolutely FANTASTIC. Increases the riding pleasure at least 25% ! While I fully understand and agree that riding sans helmet is more dangerous - boy was it NICE. I felt much more aware of my surroundings - far less work to turn your head and see everything.
So we all get to Quaker Steak and lo and behold it was their weekly biker night - which BRP was aware of - but none of us riders were-
. Well, being not too far from a real city - when they have their weekly biker night, they really do it up right. There were at least 500 bikes when our 8 Spyders pulled in. Live outdoor music, beer, food, fun !
The Spyders were a big hit - plenty of gawkers and people asking questions. The BRP rep - Luke was very nice and gave us all some freebies and some cool business cards that fold out into a brochure - with a quote from Spyderlovers very own Lamonster printed on them!
Quaker Steak is nothing like what I thought it would be. I thought it was more like a 'steak & shake'. Not even close. QS is huge - cars all over inside - we sat under on while we ate. Great wings. Great beer.Great company--- and Luke from BRP picked up the tab!
The outside had 3 large garage doors that opened up into an outside bar - then there are 3 separate eating areas inside - each seating probably 100 - not to mention another bar. TV's all over - even in the floor.
Great place to check out - and Wednesday nights (at least at the one in Portage Indiana) is one heck of a bike night! If it rains they have it on Thursday instead.
Looking forward to more BRP events this summer - maybe even get some more helmet-less riding in!
I only had room for 2 pics on my camera card--- and didn't get any of the actual Quaker Steak building.
