Pulling the battery in the winter????

I have 2011 RS and will be storing it in a storage garage about 2 miles from my house this winter. My question is about the battery. I live in Iowa so the winters are cold. I would like to pull the battery and store it in a heated location and just recharge it in the spring. But after looking at what it takes to just get the battery out I'm not sure how fun this will be. Maybe pulling the battery isn't as bad as it seems. Any help or advice from cold climate spyders would be appreciated. :dontknow:

P.S. Closing in on my first 1K and loving every minute of it.

Pull the battery. It's not a hard thing to do at all. A screwgun makes pulling the panels off as fast as a nascar pit stop. :thumbup::thumbup:

If there is an AC power source at your storage facility you could just connect up a battery tender to keep a charge on the battery. Even if you pull the battery I would keep a battery tender on it.

I just keep the battery tender on the Spyder all winter. 3 winters and the battery is still in great shape .

You could move to Florida, then you wouldn't need to worry about winter :roflblack:. Barring that, it really isn't that difficult to pull the battery. Keep it warm and attached to a battery tender then when the snow melts, you'll be good to go. It doesn't do any battery good to be left untended for months. Enjoy your :spyder:.

We all know about the Battery Tender. Most Storage places (at least in my neck of the woods) don't have electricity for the customer, therefore he needs to pull the battery. If they did have electricity, I would rent one as a vacation home apartment . :roflblack::roflblack:

Winter Stoarge

The simplest and best is just use a Battery Tender during inactivitey winter months. That way the battery is always topped off and ready to go. If no outlet available run an extension cord of proper gauge wire to facilatate it. I have used a Battery Tender for many seasons on my Harley with excellent results.

Also if covering your Spyder use a breathable cover not heavy tarp or plastic which can trap moisture in unheated area and encourage rust on metal parts.

Good point about the cover...use a sheet, if need be...otherwise, get the indoors type cover...all you're really trying to do is prevent dust build-up.

As far as the tender goes, I'm with ya 100%...you do need an outlet though...
