Problem free how long?

Thought this was supposed to be the problem free thread?

2010, 2000 miles and way too little riding to tell, but it looks hopeful. Had to have all recalls done after I bought it, since the previous owners never rode it.

You're right. I'm starting find a little humor in my misfortune (finally) and the question struck me as funny. Sorry about that. Think I will have another brew and go to bed.

At least now I know I'm not the only one with that problem (non Spyder related) no one else has ever had. Glad you're laughing it off. Having a brew with you.

1200 miles and the Deal insists that my RTs has no issues. I disagree a drive belt that sounds this bad at all speeds all the time and is tearing itself up "Just might be an issue"

Just turned 6,000 miles.

Two limp modes, one because I was riding the brake pedal, which is a very, very easy thing to do, especially on the twisties. The "fault" cleared all by itself after 10 minutes. No codes.

The other one happened after we had stopped at a cafe for a drink and a slice of something edible in a pie dish. I turned on the ignition and the display told me to "check the engine". Hadn't a clue what the Spyder was getting at, you can't even see the engine on the RT through all that plastic. No harm done, the display cleared back to normal after we had taken the ignition key for short walk. We had read on this forum what a life-saver walking the ignition-key could be. It's mighty effective, BRP should put it in the Users Manual. No codes.

I don't consider either of these events to be problematic. My reality is that the Spyder has idiosyncracies which maybe comes from an over-reliance on electronics which endlessly monitor the performance of every damn thing imaginable. I have to live with that, but I don't yet get the point of the "Limp Home Mode". Seems to me that if the Spyder's electronics detect a problem it should either continue to run, or it should shut down. Limping home is what a person does with a leg injury that is painful. I don't understand the equivalence of that in a machine, even if it is clever enough to run on three wheels! :dontknow:

41,000 miles in 13 months replaced rear brakes and tires 1 limp mode for riding brake

The number of Spyder Reliability threads (I started one of them) is beginning to seem as if we are a bunch of paranoids running around just waiting for the penny to drop and our Beloved Machine turns into a LimpHomeMode factory where the sky is gray and weather gloomy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again I'd put water-wings on my Spyder and drive it to Timbuktu if I thought a good meal could be had...
41,000 great miles in 13 months replaced rear brakes
and tires limp mode 1 time after first week riding brakes you just have to drive the bike like you stole it and it will run trouble free same as the old days running the sleds.

2008 RS, 150K miles, 22 miles problem free (last failure: the thermostat housing).

four months, 6600 miles on 2012 rss with no codes and or issues other than tire alignment and balancing issue! just love it!!!

2011 RT w/ 4000 miles and only problem was a loose stitch in seat. Dealer replaced the seat immediately. Great Machine! Would by another.

I am on my second Spyder
2008 45,000 miles never threw a code, never limped, never left me. The only problem was the dealer ruined th engine by leaving a part out of it on teardwon fixing aminor problem.
2008 9,000 miles. one limp mode, bad fan relay. I have never taken this one to the dealer so it remains trouble free.

I do believe that if you look through these threads most problems are self induced by modding the machine especially the electrics. I have read this forum for a bit and the majority of problems are on modified machines. There are rare exceptions where some manufactuing defect causes a problem. Once you have a problem and take it to BRP's very weak network of dealers, it is a crap shoot as to whether it will ever be right again> There are apparently some good dealers out there but I am not going to drive form Kalifornia to Missouri to get work done.

I'm really not qualified not respond to this thread. I have about 1,000 mi on my 2012 RT limited.

However.....

If I'm ready to buy something (at let's say a department store) that costs maybe $300.00 +/-, and the extended warranty is 75 bucks. That's over 25% of the cost of the item. It would be my suspicion that the item in question is a piece of junk, and I won't buy it based on the cost of the warranty.

Granted, I'm no actuary, but the money I paid for a 3 year B.E.S.T warranty suggests the sypder is not as prone to trouble as many may believe.

After reading all the great problem free miles out their, I have regained all confidence in the Spyder. When I first saw the Spyder at our local cycle shop I fell in love and was ready to buy, I then rather than jumping the gun did some research and found spyderlovers.com.

After reading many many threads it just seamed there were so many problems leading me to believe that maybe this was not such a good purchase considering the price tag that goes along with it; however, I have found after digging much deeper that indeed most of the problems minus a few have been driver error, bad mod install or conflict.

This thread confirmed my conclusion that more people talk about the problems they have rather that the success they are having when it comes to reliability and I suppose that is to be expected.. A good running ride, time is spent riding and not posting lol, a bad ride = frustration hence most of the complaints appear..

Many many thanks to all of you who posted as I will be purchasing with out a doubt.. I was waiting to see the 2013's but after seeing what they have done I think I will stay with the 2012.. Much cheeper lol for the few changes that were made..

Hope to meet a few of you sometime once I get rolling!

One more question? Once I buy the Spyder, when will my Spyder sense kick in? Lol

Just out of curiosity with all the issues I have read on the board with the Spyder, how about some positive information for those on the wire trying to decide about spending the money..

Here is the question: How many miles have you ridden your Spyder trouble free? No bells or whistles going off or codes. Just plain ole good riding..

Please answer as follows..

Example1: 2000 miles and still. Running
Example2: 2000 miles then error code (user error) or (faulty part)

You get the idea.. No need to elaborate on the issue, just note if the problem was from breaking the do's and dont's or was it a manufacture problem, improper setup from dealer etc..

Just curious as to the average miles most people are getting before they run into their first problem with the bike, regardless of how minor..

Hopefully this will be on the positive side :)

27,500 miles with only small problems, never been stranded, in my book the spyder is very reliable!

Trouble Free

Recent issues with DPS, replaced sensor and magnet (recommended by BRP), $3K on it, only problem so far.

2012 Limited Bronze:sour: Relatively happy with the machine. Will likely get a second bike for me and give the spyder to my better half.
