Pricing Question

I have been watching from the sidelines for about a month, contemplation the purchase of a new 2011 RTS SE5 or Limited. I have decided to take the plunge and purchase. Of coarse over the past month the supply of these models at my local dealer have dropped to the point that they will have to bring in one from other dealers.

I was told the BRP has stopped production on the 2011 models so they won't be getting any new stock from the manufacturer.

I understand that the price one pays for any Spyder is subject to supply and demand, time of year purchased (pre season, in season and post season), region of country, etc.

My question is, based on personal experience or first hand knowledge, can I expect to pay list price or will I be able to possibly get any discount off of list? and if so approx. how much off?

I don't want to leave the dealership with "Sucker" written all over my face if most dealers are discounting off of list during peak season.

Thanks for any feedback.

When I made the decision to get Ms Spyder (2010) same issues you are finding..limited supply (popular tryke!!). Found a dealer I felt comfortable with...he looked, could not find one..but said love to be your servicing dealer (being a patient person I was not WiLLING to wait months to get my :spyder2:). So I jumped on line..found 4 dealers across the US that had the RTSE5 I wanted...and started DEALING...2 would not deal sticker price no discussion...other 2 were willing. I bought in Illinois..live in WA...definitely a savings...have a great servicing dealer. If you are wililng to travel to pick up your new :spyder2:...I would recommend starting with Cowtown (Len) in Cuba, MO...there are many gold star dealers out there..but these folks are like AMAZING. I know when I get ready to "upgrade" they will get an opportunity to earn my business along with my servicing dealer....enjoy the "hunt" for your new :spyder2:...

Couple of things...

  • BRP only makes "Runs" of particular offerings. For example... They only did a production run of the Limited units. They are done this year making any more of them. And good luck in getting one for less than MSRP now...
  • As for them not building any more Spyders... This is false at this time. There production is still running. Is it in full swing? Not likely.
  • Supply and demand that each dealer is experiencing, will dictate how easy or how much effort you have to put in to get a deal done.
  • As the ryding season gets into full swing and the dealers that only ordered 8-20 spyders see their inventory drop, they will hold to the MSRP more this early in the season. Like they would the first weekend of sun!
  • If a dealer has poorly negotiated with potential buyers so far this season and has an excess of inventory, they will be negotiating here soon enough to make the inventory start going out the doors...
  • Most any good dealer will drop $500-$1500 off MSRP and or offer those savings in accessories and toss in labor to seal the deal.
Good luck and :welcome:

Price Question Follow-up

Well, after reading what others had posted here and other forums, today I decided to "pull the trigger" and go purchase a 2011 Limited. Went in with high hopes, left disappointed.

First, I do understand dealerships need to pay their overhead and make a profit. That said, I negotiated the purchase of the Limited with the 36 month BEST warranty.

As part of the deal I was also going to purchase an outdoor cover, new helmets, blue tooth headsets, which they were going to discount 10%. This was going to be a separate transaction but was not real happy with that part of the deal but was willing to go there if they met my price on the Spyder.

Out the door price is just over $30,800. I had gone in planning to spend no more than $30,500, but they would not budge, so I walked.

Was I being unreasonable?

Also, I had requested getting a 12v plug added to the glove box. They were going to charge almost $200. Seemed high and probably would have passed if we had made a deal on the ride.

Thoughts?

Must be their last one in inventory...:yikes:

Surprised they let you walk for $300. Losing a 30K sale over $300 seems a bit strange.

I would go back and talk some more--providing you were nice when you left over the $300.

My thoughts are that it's your ball game. You play by your rules. Others play by theirs. Isn't this what supply and demand is about?

There are dealers out there that still have 2011 spyders on the floor, and even 2010s, so I wouldnt limit myself to a local purchase. Never pay List Price unless they are throwing in some serious goodies.... Might not be pretty, but pretend you are at a big Flea Market and Negotiate !!!

And then when all else fails, Call: Extreme Propulsion in Cartersville, Ga or CowTown USA in Cuba Mo because they quote the best deals I have seen!

Did leave on a good note, telling the salesperson I totally understood, that I had no problem with their decision but I was not willing to go over my amount.
It was their last Limited.

By shopping elsewhere . even if you don't end up buying elsewhere you can set a price your local dealer has to match.. if he doesn't then he probably doesn't want your business bad enough and it could be worth you while to get it away from home... A number of people have mentioned this.. It is commonplace and your local dealer won't turn away the service work just because you buy elsewhere.

I just bought my RSS at a different dealer that was an hour further away because I saved $2800 difference on price with tradin.... Worth shopping 2-3 dealers. I even went back to my original dealer and he couldn't touch the price.

My dealer discounted the retail price $2,000, but added $500 for assembly and $500 for freight. (Hmmm) I also bought the BEST warranty for $800, added the CB, XM radio, 660 GPS, Spyder foot rests. She gave me a 15% discount on these items and the labor to install them.

I could have saved about $300 from another dealer (closer to me) but went with my present dealer due to their superior maintenance department. They treat me and others like we owned the place.

When I went for my 600 ($220 less 15%) and later, my DPS sensor repalcement, I called and they gave me an appointment. When I arrived, the tech was waiting for me. They offered me a demo to take to lunch if they were not finished with BR1. They finished quickly.

All are happy.

Did I get the best dollar deal? No. Did I get the best deal for ME? Yes, I did.

And that's all that counts.

Cost of LIMITED

I purchased my 2011 RT limited in Columbia SC and wasn't able to negotiate on the price. Out the door with the 36 month extended warranty and shipping was $30,272.00. They threw in 2 Scorpion helmets and have been real great to me whenever I go back for service. Your dealer should match that price!! Do your accessories later and buy from the internet to save money.

But,,, it could be the last Limited around. Do you want it bad enough. It might not be there when you go back sir.:dontknow::lecturef_smilie:
