Price on New License Plate Light Assembly from BRP?

Hey Everyone--

I went for a 30 mile ride today and came home without the black casing or red reflector above the license plate. The blub and associated electronics are still there.

How much does it cost to replace this from BRP? My dealer isn't open until Tuesday. :gaah::helpsmilie:

Parts falling off with 79 miles on the odometer. :hun::dontknow:

Only 79 miles on the odo?!? Sounds like a warranty issue to me. You shouldn't have to pay for anything. Take it back to the dealer to have them replace it for you.

You have to replace the entire assembly. Not cheap, but I forget the price. Try to get them to replace it under warranty. This should not have happened. Some are falling off as a result of a combination of vibration and loose screws. Others have had the lens break off around the screw. I suggest you put a blob of RTV silicone on the bracket over the screw hole, before you install the lens. Don't overtighten the screw. Be sure and let the silicone harden...preferably overnight, before riding.

It's a cheap plastic part that they do not sell individually - you have to buy the whole unit including the wiring harness. But something like this should DEFINITELY be covered under your warranty.

I gave up on mine and purchased an aftermarket ALL METAL light housing that contains LED's. I like it much better and the only way this thing's coming off is if the entire fender comes off with it!

:agree:

That soon on they should cover it. Mine fell off after a few thousand miles--- so I just bought one online and replaced it. They cost around $40-$50.

Do NOT try and use loctite on the screw to hold it in place--- ask me how I know how! It will melt the plastic. I used a longer screw in mine with black RTV... also put RTV around the edges before 'snapping' it into place. Been good for 10,000+ miles since I did this.

I'm on my third one

I am now on my third one because the part is made cheaply. If it happens to me again I'm going to get one of the metal replacements from extremekempy.com, it's not as bulky anyway.

Hi Amanda,

Which part # is it on that website - looks like they have some nice stuff.

The Part

Hi Amanda,

It doesn't look like they have part numbers from what I can see. There are several versions of the part, but the one I like best is this one:

http://www.extremekempy.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=969

There are cheaper versions on there, and yes it is a bit pricey, but if you have to keep replacing the part it will save you time and money in the end. I've already asked a lot of questions about this product, seems like it's a good one, and less likely to break. Plus, it isn't as bulky.

Nice! Yep you get what you pay for. Better to get a good quality one!
