• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Power steering question

Did the earlier RT models have power steering? I rode a friend's RT yesterday. I forgot what year he told me it was, I think he said 2010. It seemed to steer somewhat hard.

they DID have power steering. Which is supposedly speed-sensitive, faster you go, the less boost you need.
I had two 2014 RTs (totaled the 1st one). The steering effort was markedly different between the two, and they were the same model year.

ALL but the ryker....

It's labeled DPS (dynamic power steering) and is an electric assist that will decrease as you pick up speed. Many who have a heavier feel to them in many cases are running lower air pressure in the front tires but being an expensive unit and around that year they had problems it may very well be bad...:dontknow: anyway they all have the DPS except the Ryker guessing its design and weight made them decide not to use it. If they did add it the price would be well over the goal set...:roflblack:

There have been some changes to the DPS in the last couple of years. My 2018's steering was much easier, than that of my 2014, or 2010.

Correct. The earlier Spyders had DPS I and the newer Spyders have DPS II, which requires far less effort. As I understand it, the older models can not be retrofitted. (at least not reasonably) IIRC, the change over occurred in mid year 2017.

How does it work while idling?

Because sometimes I feel it's there and other times not (F3S MY2018)...

Might have to do with the type of floor... It's clearly assisted when I'm maneuvering on the garage (epoxy floor) and seems I can't move it while on tarmac.

My Rt 2013 does not assist until in gear and starting to move.

My 2018 F3 limited steers easy at idle on any surface. My previous 2015 RTS would not turn at idle till I started to move.

I've reading my new Shop Manual for my 2015 RTS. It says the DPS/VSS is calibrated for the BRP approved tires and the VSS will become ineffective if the front tires aren't approved by BRP.
Could one of you guys kick me in the ass BEFORE I EVER buy another machine as complicated as these Spyders or like my 2014 Triumph Trophy.
