• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Power steering disconnected

Today I finally got a chance to drive my Spyder with both power steering fuses pulled. I notice NO difference in how it turns. I can go at a crawl and the bars are as easy to turn as they are at speed. Perhaps my power steering has never worked....either way I can't see why anyone would complain about not having it, the vehicle operates fine and is easy to control . If my power steering has been inoperative from day one, this only confirms my opinion that some of the steering problems I and other owners have experienced are due to the VSS and not the DPS. Since I never had my steering "lock" as some other owners did, I think the DPS might be compounding the situation and making the unintended lane change issue worse. I never had either of the updates and do not intend to until BRP finds a fix for our problems that works. From what I read here, the updates cause too many driveability problems including the unintended directional changes....issues that were never experienced before ! Since I decline to be an unpaid "Test Rider" for BRP, my Spyder will remain in the garage until that time when the problems are properly diagnosed and can be correctly repaired. Half-ass fixes don't count !!

By the way, my instrument cluster shows no message with the DPS fuses pulled.

I Drove my SE5 for over 6months before i got on a showroom model and noticed the difference in the DPS on theres and found that mine never worked so I had it replaced under Warrenty and it worked Fantastic till I had that Stupid Ass Update a few months ago and it messed it all up again now it doesnt work right anymore again :( thats really been the only issue ive had with my Spyder Other than that It runs Flawlessly :) Im pretty much happy as hell with my Spyder and would buy one all over again :)............good luck with yours and Stay Safe.............Michael

I'm wondering if the dealer is to blame on this, I think they have to recalibrate the sensors after the update and if they don't you will have problems like this.

Experienced the locking issue and made it stop

- First I had no power steering, but didn't know.
- Last Week on 2 seperate occasions I had "Intermittent power when turning"

So this past Saturday I have the recall perfromed.

All was great until this morning on the commute to work i experienced the locking. I had said earlier that I thought i had it. I did not. This was at 75mph my bike was drifting just a little and i was giving it a slight adjustment and realized it was not turning, at all. I had to exert excessive force to kind of break it out (for lack of a better description) at which i had to immediately correct the oversteer

then it stopped and behaved normally. 2 minutes later it is doing it again. Then gone. With momentary instances of less dramatic steering difficulty. Repeat sequence a few more times until I pull over. :gaah:

I cut the bike off. A few minutes later after looking around the bars for some obvious obstruction and seeing nothing, i start it back up and continue.

I drove another 5 miles to work and then rode it back home tonight 26 miles. not one issue.

If it happens again I am going to try to shut it off right away to see if it can be repeated.

I will be at the dealer again on Saturday for the ECM recall and having this looked at again.

IMHO I cannot see how VSS could be related unless VSS stops me from being able to turn my bars at all or intermittently changes the amount of force needed to turn my bars.

She's still a good :spyder2:, just a little sick.

Tell BRP

I was talking to Scott from BRP on sunday and rnet and myself mentioned the problem and he was not aware of it and was not sure if BRP was but he said people need to let them know it's the only way to get it taken care of. So that is what has to be done.

All of these DSS and DSP issues have me a little concerned. I have a deposit on a new RT-S and am wondering if these issues have been addressed or will be addressed by BRP prior to the new vehicle pickup in January or February. Any thoughts on this by anyone out there? I purchased this bike for the safety features!!!!!!

Problems of this nature actually represent a very tiny portion of the number of Spyders produced. You are highly unlikely to experience any difficulties. My wife has owned a Premiere Edition Spyder since March 2008, and there have been no steering failures. There was one steering anomaly which was caused by a particular road condition, and actually was a handling peculiarity, but not a failure of any kind. Like riding a motorcycle with skinny tires on a rutted road, it was something you had to understand and be prepared for.

I have ordered a new RT-S with absolutely no worries or fears. None of the RT5 have reported any steering problems during their testing. I see no reason to fear needlessly. The Spyder remains the safest motorcycle on the road...bar none! That is my opinion, of course, but I say it with my whole heart. I would not let my novice rider wife on the road if I felt otherwise.

:agree: and very well stated.

I am curious as to if anyone who has a 2009 Spyder has had any of the steering problems? From all of the different threads I cannot recall if anyone reported that or not.

Classic, the online form does not have Can Am available as a "Make" in the drop downs. It won't let you move past the vehicle information section. Of course after I write them a small book in the problem description area. :cus: I will have to call.

Bike is at the shop and the dealer is consulting with BRP about DPS replacement parts. Sorry they were not specific. I will get more details when I pick it up.

All this drama and I am going through withdrawal still. Since I started commuting on my :spyder2: i get an extra 2 hours a day of my life back and I look forward to my commute every day. Now I am back in my cage, stuck in traffic, and hating it. :cus:
