Power Slide............

Well, guess I took that corner a little too fast as Gracie's a$$ end slid pretty good through the turn. Pucker factor was about a 9, as I wasn't expecting that to happen, but what a big-ole-grin on my face when she came out of it. Checked for sand or perhaps some oil on the road, but found nothing. My question is, has anyone else experienced this exhilarating phenomenon and is the cause do to the OEM Kendra on my back wheel. My 18 RTL only has 4600 miles on her (plenty of tread) and running the recommended tire pressure.
(Going back Today for some more) :ohyea:

Glide-on>>>>>>>>>>

Sounds very much like you've experienced what happens when you ryde beyond the Kenda's limits!!

But now you really know that the Spyder itself, helped by the very accomplished & capable Nanny, is capable of sooo much more than the tires allow!! :ohyea:

Glad it wasn't a painful lesson tho!

The Stock Kendas are terrible. That said, I went with a car tire but I also picked one that still had some slip to it - much better than the Kenda - but I can still break the butt end loose and enjoy some very spirited riding when I want to. ;-)

Power sliding is a blast! But when the rear "re-grabs" and a front tire lifts as a result - that can add some excitement to the event.

Power slide - interesting .... I haven't experienced that on Pavement ..... only on packed gravel / dirt roads ...... If I'm going that fast in a curve the darn Nanny kicks immediately and dramatically slows the Spyder down and No slide is produced ...... just my experience so far and I ride at 9/10 ths in the Twisties >>>>>>> Mike

Happened one time to me on my new F3L. To many g's on to tight a turn. It was pucker factor for sure, and now I ride that curve a little easier.

That would happen really easy when I had a Kumho tire on my 2013 STL. Not much of a issue with any other tire I have run.

Dang .. I haven't even done a burn out :) What is the best way for that?

2019 F3S? You should have sport mode. You can put it in Sport Mode to turn the nanny down/off (I don't think it's really off). Once that's done, from a stand still twist that throttle all the way man! :-)

My 2015 F3S spins the rear easily (and I don't have sport mode). If you are sitting at a stop and think - I'm going and I'm going fast - twist the throttle and feel the tire spin. :-0). If you ain't spinning - you can always stop on a wet spot - but on an F3S, if you can't spin the rear from a stand still just by giving max throttle - I'd question what's up with your ride.

That's correct - after much wide ranging research & questioning all sorts of people (cos as per normal, the local dealer had NFI!! ) selecting Sport Mode simply disables the 'Traction Control' on the Rear Tire ONLY & only below a set speed at that!! ALL of the other VSS/Nanny features are still operational; it's just that once you select Sport Mode you can spin the rear tire a liddle bit more than usual, & even then it's only permitted while the Spyder is moving slowly enough & you aren't having to aply too much steering input &/or 'opposite lock' to keep things going straight! But it IS a start!

However, if I understand it all correctly, it IS possible for someone in the know/with the right BUDS version & licence to change that set speed & possibly also relax some of other 'restrictions' the Nanny places upon things, like the steering angles bit, so popping donuts might be achievable after upgrades without turning off or fooling the Nanny for everything else..... but I reckon you'd want to be verrrryyy careful doing too much of that! :lecturef_smilie:

All that said, even without Sport Mode & under the Standard Nanny restrictions, if you are careful not to exceed the (fairly limited) steering angle (which I think for the F3's is something like 10-15° either way) that will upset the yaw sensor; and the difference in rotating speed of the rear tire vs the front tires doesn't exceed the (fairly limited) allowable variation there either, you can actually sorta 'mildly drift' these things! :ohyea: And the RT's are similarly capable too, except that their allowed steering angle is only about 7-10° & the front/rear tire rotational speed variance restriction is a tad less too!! (Probably a good thing, considering the higher CoG! :p ) But it IS possible & it can be fun to (mildly) 'Hang the Tail' on your Spyder.... well, at least until you get the slightest bit over one of those limits & the Nanny jumps in to bring it all back under 'control'!! :gaah:

Wouldn't a proper 'Drift Mode' be a fantastic selectable option for a Spyder?? :2thumbs: Maybe if BRP wasn't running quite so scared of the potential for litigation; but hey, that stupid 'Read before Riding Warning Card' they've installed seems to make them feel warm and comfortable enough about letting us ride our Spyders in the first place... Maybe they could print another one for 'Drift Mode' use?? :dontknow: Altho I must admit, with the latest Digital Dash & BRP Connect as it is, I still can't really see too many people willing to upgrade to a new Spyder that has those over the earlier & simpler/less traumatic offerings just to get a true 'Drift Mode' facility! :lecturef_smilie: Aahh well, it's nice to dream, innit?!? Altho I'm still dreaming that they'll eventually get off the 'Kenda Tires Only' nightmare that they're fixated on, ain't I.... :cus:

I / we (wife on board) had a 110 kph slide happen for no apparent reason on a bit of a bend a few thousand clicks ago.No codes found and never happened again but the speed nanny stepped in at was very impressive. Not quite as impressive as the needed two washes skidmarks in our undies but worthy of a mention nonetheless.
Looking at the sad excuse of a tyre about to be sent to Kenda's covid victim pile I wouldn't be surprised what these things were capable of in their effort to hold air in an enclosed space.:banghead:

Been there, done that, went into Limp Mode, learned my lesson.........my first ride with my new Spyder in a group of 2 wheelers and trikes, doing the curves rather fast, started think of my old hot rod racing days, decided to do a "power-slide" around this really nice curve, hit the brakes, cranked the throttle to full, and you know what happened then...."Limp Mode"....I pulled over not knowing what was wrong with my bike and being very upset with this NEW bike, as I didn't know what Limp Mode was yet, my wife being a Spyder rider herself, rode over to me and asked what happened...then corrected me for my actions, turned off the my bike and let everything reset, started it up and on we went.......with no using the brakes and throttle at the same time......but she hasn't let me forget it!

Our F3L did that before car tires and Bajaron sway bar. I did hit standing water on the interstate at 75mph with the cruise on and the nanny stepped in nicely. The ryker tends to push the front end in the corners. Burnout? Just twist the throttle hard.
