• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Power Band?

I ride a 2014 ST Limited. I know this questions has been put out there...but here goes anyway..
When you are riding, what RPM's are you shifting at? Are you reaching your Power Band?
:cheers:Thanks!

power band

If you have a 998cc engine you should be shifting at about 5000 rpm, you can go to Does and Donts in SL and read all about this have fun ryding and be safe.

As mentioned upshifting at 5,000 rpm is a good rule of thumb. If in a strong headwind or climbing a grade. Bump that up a bit. When passing another vehicle shift even higher. Every once and awhile shift at 9,000 rpm. Because you can and it's fun.

Downshifting. When slowing down and not stopping. Don't let 5th gear go below 4,000, 4th below 3,800, 3rd below 3,600, 2nd below 3,400.

:agree: the twin loves the high rpm's and you can feel it when you find it.....

I shift around 6,000 rpm, below that the tranny shifts are not crisp sometimes. I try to always keep the rpm above 5,000 all the time, too much below that and the engine seems to lug a bit and everything I have read says NOT TO LUG the 998!!!! The engine seems most responsive above 5,500 to almost 9,000. High rpm shifts are a real hoot!!!!!!:yes::yes::yes:

RE: tranny shifts, especially when warming the Spyder to operating temperature, by not crisp, I mean during warm up, sometimes it seems to slip into gear rather than a very positive gear change. Sometimes I forget during warm up and the tranny will remind me to wind up higher!!
