• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Post steering update blues

Well I went ahead and had the steering update on my 2009 spyder
in my opinion this was a serious mistake. I had read on the forum that most people thought that their bikes ran better after the update well mine is running strange I have noticed that at 4400 to 4600 rpms my bike cuts out and is real sputtery it is a lot harder to start and the steering feels a lot more responsive but..... at a dead stop it takes almost all my strength to turn
and sometimes locks for a second the unlocks this is a little unnerving to me
anybody out there had the same thing after the update and do you think I should return it to the dealer for a repair ???? Thanks in advance for your input -Jerry-

Return ASAP to the dealer for second update +/- replacement parts (DPS, GPS or PSU). :doorag:

Mine required the DPS unit to be replaced after the update was done. No

problems b-4 the update. Dealer installed 3 new DPS units b-4 they

got one to work. So far so good.

Yep, get it back to the dealer for a new DPS. Mine messed up after the 1st update. Then at Lamont's the tech guy hooked it up and I think did a second update. I think the first update messed up some kind of "communication" with the dps and the Spyder. But what do I know, I could be wrong since I'm no gearhead. So I think they had to get a new dps into the bikes that had the 1st update - somethign about that software w/ the original DPS. I could be wrong though:dontknow:

Make sure they did the grounding wire update. For the rough running they should apply the Engine Optimization Bulletin that was released on September 28, 2009. There is also a second ECM update that you may or may not need. Hopefully those updates will fix it if they haven't been applied already, otherwise it will be time for a new part as the others have stated.

Seems like the new update and the old GPS have conflicts on some Spyders. I guess you don't know till you try it. Those that have gotten the fix for this seem to be pretty happy campers.

Hope you can work through this glitch with good results.

I'm wondering if the update makes marginal GPS units stick out like a sore thumb because it's asking a bit more from that component than before the update.

That sounds logical in this case.

My GPS was replaced in between the updates, but I still had the surging issue until the Engine Optimization Bulletin update was installed. So it could very well be that my original GPS was marginal.

My wife's Spyder was running great until the first update was applied. Then she started having the same surging issues and was not a happy camper at all. Her Spyder was on the list for the second ECM update and they also ran the Engine Optimization, and hers is purring like a very large cat now.
