• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Post Pix of GPS setup?

Anyone able to post some pix on how they mounted their GPS to their spyder. Trying to get ideas on how you guys did your setup and if you selected a Motorcycle GPS (water proof etc) or did you stick with a traditional car GPS.

I'm guessing a cheap car GPS would be fine (1-$300) (as long as it's not raining) or does a Motorcycle GPS really make a difference when it comes to using gloves to select things.

EDIT: For GS/RS sorry ;)

I use a Garmin 765T on a RAM mount with a quick release. It's mounted on the right hand side of the CHAD windshield where the wing nut bolt would be. Everyone has their own favorite/best location. No pics.

The 765T isn't a motorcycle gps.

GS GPS mount

Here's a cheap GPS setup I use. I didn't have the funds after buying the Spyder for a M/C GPS so I use a Garmin NUVI 550 but this will work with most models.

I used a simple electrical conduit beam clamp from Home Depot and half of the stock window mounting.

Ooh.. that is a pretty slick idea with the beam clamp. I would have never thought of that.
I may actually have a clamp like that in my garage. hmm I may give that a try and use a nuvi I have from another vehicle.

lamonster: what is that above your engine cut-off? Another GPS or trip computer?

Thanks. I also clamp on to the tab for the instructions to give it more support.

I've been using a Garmin 1300T for well over a year and 11,000 miles. It has held up well. I have it mounted to my CHAD windshield bracket and that shields it from drizzle or short term sprinkles... For hard down pours, I carry a zip lock to rubber band over it.

I would like to get a ZUMO 665, but I can buy 3 or 4 car Garmins for that price, so if I burn one up once a year, I'm staying ahead of the game.

Note: Ram mount does make boxes that have a pliable plastic window that still allows you to touch and use a GPS and have rain protection...

Picked up a metal bar from the hardware store and some bolts.
Bent the bar a bit, removed the back of the handlebar housing, and bolted the bar to the plastic housing. Took the GPS suction cup off. Drilled 2 holes and bolted the GPS bracket to the bar. Ran the wire to the trunk. Done :) Wind Tunnel tested at 107 MPH. Doesn't move at all.

Metal bracket coming up. Painted it black.
The suction cup is bolted on for the GPS.
The FM traffic receiver which is built into the GPS power plug is zip-tied to the back of the metal bracket
