• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Possible New Owner--But....

I am seriously considering the low end RT model but after reading through the great and very informative threads on this forum I am very concerned about ...

1. Reliability

2. Routine Maintenance

As an outsider, it seems that this bike is beset with problems. And the routine maintenance (oil change complexity, belt adjustments, etc) are a bit much for a modern motorcycle.

Can any of you calm my "fears"?

Thanks

Hi welcome i have a 2010 rs model This is the first year model for the RT so it's not uncommon to have little stuff go wrong also what you read on forums is magnified 2 fold if you are planning on buying now i'am sure the dealer will address any problems before he or she delivers. With a little reading and a little mechanical ability you should beable to do oil changes. Good for you for doing your homework before you buy . As for reliability plenty of people have driven cross country on their spyders with no problem. As for me i just drove from Orange county NY to myrtle beach, SC 775 miles one way no mechanical problems.

If your somewhat handy the Normal maintenance is not bad.
Most are quite reliable!
Mine was great from Oct to Jun and 4,400 miles then came up with a problem and is in the shop for probably 3 weeks by the time I get it back?
BUT, Riding the Spyder is addicting in a good way sooo I will have to accept the bad with the good once in a while!
No other vehicle can take its place!

Take a chance and live a little! No mater what, you won't regret your Spyder purchase, and besides, there are plenty of great minds in this group that will help you through any problems you might encounter. :ohyea:

welcome I see you are from Chicago, a couple weeks ago we invaded your city, I'm sure you saw some of us... I say GO FOR IT--Ya only live once..

Forums leave a skewed impression

I just brought home a new RT-S and put a couple of hundred miles on it this weekend. I also own a motorcycle, and actively participate in a major website dedicated to the brand/model. Forums tend to be places where people ask for advice on a problem they're having, or to complain about the little things that can and do go wrong. That tends to skew the impression given to people who are investigating the particular machine toward the negative. Once in a while a post like yours comes along that will cause folks to focus a little on the positive. The feedback you get here will help give you a more balanced picture. Good Luck with your decision!

I've owned my RTS-PE since Feb 2010 and it has givin me very little problems that could not be corrected by the dealer. Go for it! You won't be disappointed.
