• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Portable CB for RTS.....need suggestions please

Flight Risk

GOS member (Girls On Spyders)
I ride with a large group and sometimes we don't have enough CB's. I don't want a permanent set up but have heard of using a portable CB that can be attached around the handlebar/dash area. I have investigated some of them but don't want to make a purchase mistake.

Does anyone have suggestions for a unit that doesnt involve wiring, added antennas, maybe work on batteries and have decent range?

i think I saw something like this set up on one of our members bikes, but haven't seen him lately.

I did do a search here on SL, but they weren't very recent.

I appreciate any and all suggestions!

I have an RT and use a Radio Shack hand held velcroed to the top of the dash. I have a hand held mike with an earpiece plug on the side. I hang the mike from my jacket and use than earpiece for reception. It works great. Cost $89 for the radio, $17 for the mike.

Here you go...................

With the headset, this set up is costing around $400.

One thing I've learned.....................
Let me clarify, probably the ONLY thing I've ever learned is:

When it comes to motorcycle electronics, you truly get what you pay for.
You can try a cheaper route, but you will get very poor or unreliable results.
I tried the cheapest route, had to junk it then went with something more expensive, then junked that

Finally. for about $1300 I went with the full OEM setup and I've been very happy with it.

I've had the OEM setup since 2010 and have had nothing but trouble from it. In fact, I've seen very few posts like yours that praise the OEM CB. While at Spyderfest, I asked Len (Pitbull) if there was a fix for it & his response was 'It's a piece of junk'. I agree with Len.

I was thinking about getting the OEM setup, so I'm glad I saw your post before I plunked down the big bucks.

I'm now looking at GA Blue Knight's suggestion.

I've been using a midland 622 mounted to my dash via aram mount let clip adapter. Powered via the car adapter and my 12v dash outlet. I bought JUST the antenna from the BRP CB kit and run that to the midland car adapter. Also bout the Sena Cb radio Bluetooth adapter so I can hear and talk from my helmet. The cb itself works well. However, when I talk the signal is strong enough I hear what I'm saying through the bikes speakers (which it is in no way connected to) and sometimes causes my cluster to reboot. I've been wondering if either simply moving the radio elsewhere or doing it without the car adapter would remedy that problem. Haven't had a chance to try.

Thanks to all for your replies.

I too haven't heard anything good about the OEM CB setup (except for the one here) and honestly just want a CB for backup.

hopefully I can figure this out with the help you have given here.

thanks again!!

I wanted the samething so I got a midland 75-822 hand held cb, a sena sr-10 Bluetooth adapter, and a sena Bluetooth headset depending on the helmet you wear. Ican talk to all the guys and answer my phone and listen to any music player that's Bluetooth ready all for around 450.00 I love it... Hope this helps.
