• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

It never occurred to me that people would mess with motorcycles, Spyders, sit on them out in parking lots, etc., until I started reading the alarm posts. Do people REALLY act so invasive or does this occur more on a 1-3 times per year.

If it happens more frequently, I am going to want to get an alarm that activates when someone is too near the bike. All recs are welcomed. But I need your honest opinion how often this happens, particularly in a major metropolitan suburban area. To be honest, I am shocked that people would be so invasive.

Thank you,
M

Not real frequent around here, but some people think it is alright to sit on someones Spyder without permission. I had this happen this year at Biketoberfest. A guy was taking pics of his girl on any ride she wanted to climb on. High heels, purse banging into gas tanks and all. They were real surprised when I told her to get off my Spyder. Had one playing with mine at the bike show on Sunday. Doc and I were watching him and I was waiting for him to try to climb on it.

People put the "half covers" on them too which would likely be enough of a deterent. Nelson Rigg sells one such cover. But, handy people have made their own. There are "sun" covers out there too, but I have forgotten who has those. Small, easy to roll up and throw in the trunk, a cover might be all you need.

Alarms

I haven't had much of an issue with mine, but it is always in a garage (at work or home). I have a GPS alarm on mine that sends me alerts when a tilt event occurs (someone rocks it). It also works like Low/Jack but is not limited to Low/Jack's proprietary use. It uses the cellular network and I can even monitor it via a website. It provides alerts on speed, outside zone of operation, moving with engine off (being towed or trailered) etc.

It does not offer any sound deterent. I like that because nobody pays any attention to the noise anyway.

I believe that you can configure it to contact people and provide the GPS location in case of an accident!

MicroTRAKgps for Motorcycles. Got mine from RMS.

I have never had that happen in 50+ years of riding, two Spyders, and a current total of 25 motorcycles. Guess it just depends on the neighborhood.

I've had evidence once of someone having sat on my Spyder in a parking lot. People must seem to think that because it has 3 wheels it is safe for them to just hop on. Other than that, if it happened more, I have not seen it happen. If I do, I'd confront them.

I'm more than happy to let people sit on it if they just ask. Heck, half the time I insist they sit on it. ;)

I do use a sun shade about half the time... That is a cheap very effective tool to keep the morons off.

+1 on the 'sun cover'.

In 40+ years i've never had any one mess with my bikes, With the Spider[almost 3 years now] same thing.
But the Spyder attracts people who don't know the bikers code. So i can see some Nimrod sitting on it with
out permission.

I've had no issues but lots of posts with people with alarms installed. Prices are all over the place. Just do a search on alarms and you should find all you need to know about alarms for the :spyder2:.

I haven't had any problems with my Spyder, but I had a '52 MGTD that I had to build a motion detector alarm for it since I couldn't lock the doors. I found people who had opened the door and were sitting inside. One guy said he was trying to figure out how to turn off the alarm!

Decal

For one of my previous motorcycles I had a decal that said, "If you love your life as much as I love my motorcycle, stay off!" People walked around it, but no one ever tried to get on it. Maybe a little harsh, but for some people there is no limit to their stupidity.

I really wasn’t that hardcore, if anyone asked, I would allow them to sit on it. It’s all about respecting other people’s property. It’s a shame we have to resort to things like that.

My wife and I basically did the same thing as you, and I also let people sit on mine as long as I am there. We removed the safety card sticker and replaced it with one of these:

So, when we walk away from our Spyders we just pull down the safety card flap and let it be. :D

:agree:Same here. I'd thrown them off if I find them on my Spyder without asking but if they ask first .... then I'll let them sit on it and answer any questions they may have.

We sit in restaurants where we can keep an eye on the bykes. See lots of people gathered around Spydee but no-one touches.

If you really want to keep people away from your Spyder, get a small sticker, prominently placed, saying "Bandido Property" :lecturef_smilie:
