• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

PLEASE Don't text and drive

Hi Cavman,

Re: Is this true for law enforcement too? I see them driving and looking at their computers. I've also see cops driving and talking on a cell phone.

It is allowed for LEO's here in Oregon. I disagree with this practice but it is legal.

Jerry Baumchen

PS) One argument is that, because of their 'rigorous' driver training, they are better drivers and can do it safely.

Anyone want to buy a bridge somewhere? :doorag:

First time they do that, the family of some kidnap victim in a trunk, who can't call for help will sue the vehicle manufacturer . . . what needs to be done is make the punishment for texting while driving so severe that the idiots who ignore the law become afraid to do so. Perhaps confiscation of the vehicle and jail time would send the message

With that kind of thinking, the family of the deceased should sue the vehicle manufacturer for NOT having the vehicle block the phone when not in park. Simple solution to your scenario, dont block 911 calls.

Texas does not make it illegal to text and drive except in school zones BUT, if you have a wreck they pull cell phone records. If you are at fault and they show texting while the incident occured, its no longer a traffic offense (misdemeanor) it becomes criminal negligence (a felony with long jail terms and high fines). A felony conviction in Texas also cancels all professional licences except lawyers. So any career you thought you had is over.

"In NC it's against the law to text or read a text while driving and that includes computers."

Is this true for law enforcement too? I see them driving and looking at their computers. I've also see cops driving and talking on a cell phone.

I drew the line when on the Spyder. NO Bluetooth for the phone. I listen to my stereo thru the speakers that came on the bike too. NO headset in my helmet.

First Responders are exempt from the part on looking at computers. It is not illegal by state law to talk on a cell phone while driving. However, some municipalities have laws regarding that. I to see cops texting. We rode beside a Raleigh cop for about a mile while he was texting. He saw my wife watching him and he put his phone down.

my 2 cents...

You just can't legislate to fix "Stupid"! It's a very hard truth, but that's the way it is. The worst part is when these idiots cause injury to others by their decision to text. They've got to be taught that it can wait until you get there....
