• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Please allow me to introduce myself....

72 and a kid again...gotta luv it!!!

Yep you made a great decision. I am here to confirm that 72 is only a number and more so when you ryde a Spyder. Welcome and congrats. 1000 miles and you and your ryde will be best buddies...

:welcome: It sounds like you found a nice ryde. Glad to hear you are enjoying it so much. It will only get better. :2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs:

Welcome!
When I saw the title of the thread though, I expected the first line in your post to be "I'm a man of wealth and taste..." referencing of course the song "Sympathy for the devil" by the rolling stones.

Welcome, I'm new here too. My first ride was several years ago. I didn't like it to say the least. I kept looking for a front brake lever, put my foot down at stops, and tried to counter steer at the first curve I came to. I got back to it recently and I'm quite comfortable now -- as I'm sure you will be.

Congrats! Someone chime in here but a bike sitting that long would make me antsy to have some or all of the fluids changed out, or am I paranoid again?

I thought about it. I'm a chemical engineer & I figure sitting for that time in a protected climate would not have hurt the fluids. The brake system is sealed & I will change the brake fluid at the end of the summer.

It came with no warranty & that bothered me a lot. I could have purchased a 2yr one from the dealer for $1000 but it was not from Bombardier but a company providing warranty extensions. The sales manager actually said not to buy it as the manual models don't give them many problems.

The dealer changed the power steeringl & reprogrammed the computer (for fuel injection mapping?) under the terms of a recall.

I'm still bothered about the complexity of it all but have mechanical skills & lots of time (but no electronic skills).

Time will tell I guess.

I love the sound of that motor

I'm still making an idiot of myself at least once on every ride. Not really comfortable on it yet. Have put 700km on it in 6 days.

I actually haven't grabbed for the front brake lever, which suprises me. My last 2 bikes were "maxi-scooters" with CVT transmissions. I'm actually enjoying using the gearbox on the Spyder as I find it so smooth. Plus I don't have to balance the thing in very slow traffic or at stops. I was geting a bit too old for that & I have short legs which never helped.
