• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Looking at riding Pike's Peak in September. Any one have any issues with the Spyder at that altitude?

How were the brakes coming down?

Have not been more than 8,000 ut would imagine you will do fine. As for the brakes...I ryde a manual so not an issue but if you ride them you will get warning light and limp home screens so use compression low gears and pump them. :spyder:stop and let them cool down if needed...
 
Pike's Peak in June

Just rode Pike's Peak last month. It was a great ride and absolutely no problems on the way down. Just use your tranny and engine properly and you won't need much braking at all.;)
 
I had no problems with altitude or brakes. Stay in a low gear coming down and you won't have to brake much. My main issue was other cars and motorcycles going so slow to take a pic without having to use a pull-out.
 
September?

It might be SeptemBrrrrrrrrr. Watch the weather, early fall storms could bring snow at any time. Best time is about mid September when the Aspens are turning.
 
I was just up there last weekend.. 2012 RS and 2015 RT, no problems at all.. Go online for Pikes Peak and get a coupon. $10 for bike.
No worry on the brakes, downshift. This isn't a drop off coming down.. It is downhill but nothing extreme.. September will be beautiful if you hit the leaves just right but carry gear for snow, rain, wind and hope for clear, dry, calm weather..

I might also add, unless you specifically want to go up Pikes Peak, you could go up Mt. Evans instead. Paved to the top, $3 unless you have a senior National Park pass, then its free.. 14, 261 ft.. Its higher than Pikes Peak plus lots more Mountain Goats to see..

OR... go for the trifecta. Pikes Peak, Mt Evans, and Trail Ridge Rd... all the highest roads and passes here on the front range.

While I haven't taken my Spyder to Pikes Peak Yet. I been there others times with other bikes and cars.

I remember the first time going up was a Pucker Upper. Loose gravel all the way up and close to the edge of the cliff :yikes: NOw its paved all the way up.

Temperature changes too..be prepared for that and or rain.hail/snow . There is a rest area about 1/2 way up too.

The top was the best and over view..
 
I have not been up Pike's Peak road, but the view from the top is spectacular. I would highly recommend Estes Park to Grand Lake as well; Trail Ridge Road. It is spectacular as well and the Spyder will do fine over that part of the road for sure.
 
Just came back from a 1100 mile trip in Colorado. Went up and over Independence Pass at 12000 ft above sea level. The only thing I noticed coming from my home area at 6000 ft above seal level is a power loss. Remember a general rule of thumb. For every 1000 ft you lose 3% of your horse power, give or take. So us riders in Albuquerque are already at a 18% loss of power. It sucks. Anyway at 12000 ft you would lose 36% HP, give or take. I noticed I was using 5th gear more and running the rpm's up there. I had no starting issues some of my buddies bikes had, but altitude sucks the power, even with fuel injection or turbos. Just expect your bike to run a little less powerful, and feel my pain. On chain motorcycles, most guys will drop a tooth on the front sprocket to compensate a little..
