There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Picking her up today. :-)

Found a good deal on a used 2010 RTS and picking it up today. It's blue with only 300 miles on it (yup, that's 300) and includes the CB and communication pack options, cover and other stuff, I probably haven't noticed as a newbie. It's an individual seller and couple just didn't like it, so it never got any use. My only hesitation was the SM5 setup, since the wife and I are pretty new to this. I know the SE5 is pretty sweet, but it too has its own set of complications, but I hope we don't regret the clutch. I've been on two wheelers years ago and never had an issue with the clutch and my wife can drive a stick shift car well enough, so we'll see.

I came across a couple of SE5s, but they would have cost me at least 4K more with all the dealer BS attached and taxes, not to mention, they all had at least 12k more miles. This one was just too tempting to pass up.

I ran the VIN and all recalls and updates have been performed. Should I be concerned about doing the 600 mile service early, or should I just change the oil, since it's been sitting with probably the same oil for this long?

I'll post some pics when I get it, but it looks like any other stock orbital blue one out there.

CONGRATS & WELCOME to the SpyderHood

:yes:Sounds like a GREAT deal:yes: I'd go ahead and ryde it a little and have the 600 mile service done if it were me (IMHO):congrats: & :welcome: Have :yes:FUN:yes: & Enjoy the Ryde:firstplace:

:congrats: and welcome to our fold! :2thumbs: I'd also put a few miles on it and then have the 600 miler done; but take a little time to get used to riding it first! :D

Change the oil

I would not be comfortable riding something with that low of miles on that original oil. I am not saying you need the full 600 mile service but fresh oil is a small investment. Things happen when they sit unused. Speaking from experience of a old car collector.

NEWBIE

Welcome Aboard, now the fun begins..I wouldn't be that concerned about the clutch..i think it's one of the lightest smoothest easiest shifting clutch out there...unless it's way different from the G/S....Just drive it like a car and take it easy on the steering...they are power assited and don't take much turn them....Also it will stop on a dime and give you change...:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: Have a great time and ask questions...That's what we're here for......Mike......

Well....Things didn't quite go as planned! I've had too many scheduling conflicts and haven't had a chance to get to the other side of town to pick her up. Good thing it's just the other side of town and not the country like I was contemplating. It is happening for sure today, so I should have her this afternoon.

I did get to finalize all paperwork etc, but when I was doing so, the owners dropped a major bomb on me! They handed me a big stack of papers to include the remainder of a 6 year 0 deductible warranty.:yes:There were also 6 remaining pre-paid services, but the dealer they bought it from said that's not transferrable. Looks like the dealer made out like a bandit on that one. That's too bad. The original owner can't get a refund on the remaining services and I can't use any of them either. :banghead: I mainly feel bad for the seller, because it seems the dealer really took advantage of them in this case, but I guess when they sell people pre-paid maintenance, not being able to use all or some of it os part of their plan.

The seller didn't have to offer me any extras and I would have never known. My dealings with them have been very honest and fair, so they surprised me with a gift. I'm so grateful for the surprise and really starting off right with our new :spyder2:. Proof, the Spyder community really is top notch.

Better late than never! :ohyea:
Too bad about those pre-paid services not being transferable or redundable though...
It sounds as if the prior owners are REALLY nice people; I'd be tempted to watch for their yard sales... :roflblack:

She's home, but before I had a chance to ride her, I ended up hitting a few stores to get geared up and after getting major sticker shock, I now look like an astronaut. I guess the alternative would have been to look like the Village People, so I'm good.

I only had a chance to take her around the neighborhood and wow do I have a lot to learn. There's a lot to think about for a newbie's first time, but I can't wipe the grin off my face. This is going to be sweet. Can't air till I get a hang of things, so I can do some real riding. Sheer awesomeness.

:congrats: on the new to you :spyder2: . As stated in an earlier post I would get the oil changed and make sure all ( there has been a few ) updates recalls and service bulletins have been performed. I would also read the manual paying particular attention to the little safety course in the book to be performed in a empty parking lot just to build a little confidence in your Spyder and to get the feel of the new baby.

Congrats and keep the plastic handy or hid!!!!

Put the miles on. Won't be long and you'll be an old pro. Don't know what to say but the mods go on forever for you and the Spyder!!! Welcome aboard

It may be a bit, before I'll feel comfortable enough to take it into traffic, so I'll likely have to take care of the oil myself using the handy DIY posted on this forum. I'll probably do that long term anyway. I was thinking of taking it in, so it can be looked at through and through the first time, but I have to ride it, to get comfortable first, so it's a bit of a double edged sword. I've called BRP with the VIN and everything has been done with regards to updates and recalls. The only pending one is the later brake pin, so she's pretty well set.

I didn't get the DVD training, but it's on youtube and have watched it. I did apply some of the training to my little neighborhood run, but the figure eights and stuff will have to wait, till I get my license next week and can legally. A mile from me is a nice church parking lot, which will be empty most afternoons. That should be a good place for both the wife and I to start.

The wife is still hugely nervous about the clutch, but she'll have to master that to get her license, so it will most likely be a non issue after class....I hope! I don't see why she's so nervous. She used to drive stick all the time and to make it worse, could shift without using the clutch. That was something I never mastered. I have a feeling I'll have to get up real early to steal our :spyder2:, or miss out when she gets comfortable enough. It could be the prelude to a two Spyder family.:D

Parking lots are great learning "turf"

I had never ever driven a motorcycle...went for the SE5..figured one less thing for the aged brain to learn...I still love shifting a vehicle...(never mastered the shifting on the fly without engaging clutch)..
I would sneak up to WalMart parking lot real early..after I could master getting to 3rd I advanced to driving around my small town (3000)...next was going 3 1/2 hrs to take tryke class offered by state...I learned a ton plus came away with my endorsement....at about 15k miles felt confident enough to try cruise control...now it is my best traveling "buddy"...take it easy...don't rush it...BUT practice, practice, practice and will see you both ryding into Spyderfest 2013!!!!!:yes:

Clutch is a snap

Congrats on your purchase, sounds like a GREAT deal! If you've ridden motorcycles or driven anything with a clutch the Can-Am clutch should be a cinch.

Sounds like you are very excited about your new machine, I think you will be very happy with the model you went with, I look at it as less complicated, less to go wrong. I am an old Motocross guy so I rarely ever use the clutch other than stops, the Spyder has a great gearbox(except the missing 6th gear) that slips effortlessly through the gears with only a slight "blip" off the throttle. Keep in mind that I ride fairly slowly and always short-shift at pretty low RPM, my Spyder rarely tops 5000 RPM and always runs flawlessly, Good Luck
