There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Personal Best Yesterday*165 Miles on 1 Tank*I challenge other Ryders to try

Gas Mileage on 2011 RTS/SE5

Usually, after 120 miles, I'm sweat'n bullets look'n for a gas station & the fuel light is on & gauge is down to one bar. Again, not sure if this is related to the Firm-Ware update that was done right before our trip to SITA or just due to me short-shifting like Bob Denman has suggested he rydes, but I'm making & breaking Personal Best records with fuel economy on TEDs Red Sled:roflblack:

For this last tank, SpYder & Teddy only, no camper, we averaged 30.6 miles per gallon & 165 miles on the trip computer. Before trying this short-shifting Ryde'n style, I've NEVER come close to numbers like these. All I've been doing is making sure that I up-shift as close to or before 4000 RPMs on the Tach. No matter what speed Im at. At first, trying this, I thought I would be bogging the SpYder down, but now that I'm used to this method, it's just a constant series of up-shifts with no bogging or hesitation. Granted, I'm no rocket off the line, but I'm just as happy with the performance, especially knowing I'm getting an average of between 5-8 more miles per gallon. As much as we Ryde (over 12K miles in about 3 months) that adds up quickly;)

Anyone else with an SE5 RT want to give this a try & see if you get similar results or not? I'm curious if it's just the change in Ryding style or if it was the Firm-Ware Update:dontknow:

I have the 2011 RTS /SE5 with about 1,900 miles on the odometer. I fill the tank to just below the air vents. It takes alot of little squirts, but I want to be accurate. I shift just over 3,000 RPM's and let off the gas each time. It is very smooth this way. I have been averaging 33-36 mpg and got to 170 miles, and the light didn't even go on yet.

Yep still get much better MPG

Yep another 1000 miles and hovering between 38+ and 40 mpg...only addition is either non ethanol gas or when not available (most times) I use the StarBrite Star Tron...gotta be what's doing it...went ryding with friend and she was right at 30...but she keeps windshield at highest point and only has 2000 miles on her 2011...so know those are also factors that will give a lower MPG...

:firstplace:and got 168.3 miles:firstplace:
:doorag:and this was with us Shredding up about 20 miles of country roads we found last night:doorag:
:lecturef_smilie:So don't think we're having to be slow & no fun:lecturef_smilie:
;)You can still short-shift quickly & have a BLAST;)
:clap:and improve your fuel economy:clap:

At 38 mph average speed ... You would get a ticket on the expressway... Min is 40 you know...

For all of you getting that excepitional gas mileage..

What is your average speed?
And what speed are you really running for long periods of time?

Average is just that, an average of all combined speeds

At 38 mph average speed ... You would get a ticket on the expressway... Min is 40 you know...

We live in an urban/city area, with all local & side streets being 25-35 mph. Travel a minimum of 40 miles per day (M-F) on the highway (I75) & the speed limit there is only 55MPH. Believe me Forrest, we're in no danger of getting a ticket for going too slow.:roflblack:

2008 rs got 180 mls w/ 5.6 gls.

I have a 2008 rs w/ 36k mls. and i refill my tank w/ 5.6 gls. i was on reserve and calcutatim i had 180 mls w/ 5.6 gls of gas i think this e my better malige i ago so far.

:ohyea:Wow, talking about an Inspiration:ohyea:
:2thumbs:I think that's the best Avg. for the amount of miles that I've EVER heard of :congrats:
:dontknow:Can you describe your Ryding style (shift points/cruise/braking???) for all of us that aren't doing as well:lecturef_smilie: but would maybe like to try what you do, to see if we can maybe do better ourselves :hun:

I realize every :f_spider: is going to be different and maybe we can't all do as well as you, but after improving 5-8 MPGs with trying Bobs Ryde'n style, I'm game for trying just about anything:thumbup:

Yep, my mileage is still steady at 38+...actually got a couple 40's in there...I do alot of Mt travelling...so increase in elevation in short area..twisties...ok example was yesterday..went over 400 miles...person I was traveling with has the GPS that gives average MPH for total trip...our average was 43 mph...anywhere from tite twisties of 20 mph UPHILL to 65 and everything in between...I am pretty anal to shift at around 4000-4200 rpm for first 3 gears...4th around 4500 and 5th is closer to 5200 mph....on upper 2 gears I listen and if engine seems laboring then I will manual shift down....95% I let Ms Spyder decide when she wants to downshift. I use cruise whenever I can...yesterday only a couple times...again the only thing I have changed is to either use ethinol free gas or Star Bright/Star Tron concentrated formula...

Ethonal gas!

I put 5.5 gal in my RS SE5 today at 176 miles. Not great mpg but not terrible either. The interesting part is that the bike had been parked for about 2 weeks while we were gone. It was in the garage and the outside temps were 100-105 daily. When I started it the fuel gauge showed no bars. I know the last bar was lit when I parked it. I ran about 3 miles to the station to fill it and never saw that 1st bar. Several curves and bumps in the road too. I wondered if the float was stuck at the bottom. Filling the tank brought it up and it's registering just fine but that was a new one for me.

Just to let you knoiw that if you let gas sit,(ethonal 10%), it will evaporate...I put stabil- the blue- in all of my gas cans and vehicls..it will save you some money.

I guess your are right... but it will take you a week to get to Middletown.... :roflblack:, well mabe to Dayton.:roflblack:

Just finished my miles per gallon on the Spyder triangle... 8,150 miles at 320 gals = 25.468 miles per gal , average speed 60 mph

last couple fill ups using Star-Tron * Another Record*29.9 &27.1

:dontknow:If you fill your tank to the top and drive like an adult, there's no reason why you can't go 175/180 miles on a tank.
Most times my low light wouldn't come on till 165 miles. [08Sm5]

I find it difficult to top off my 2010 RT-S. I place the gas filler nozzle in only about 1/8th inch and fill as slowly as possible. After shut-off I have to keep clicking the nozzle for what seems like an eternity. Very annoying especially when going to Sturgis and a half dozen bikes are lined up behind me nervously waiting for me to hurry and get out of there. Are there baffles to prevent topping off easily? My motorcycles never had this problem. BTW on a 2000 mile trip I averaged about 29 mpg. Trip included Bear Tooth, Tetons and Rockies. Lots of up-hill but just as much down-hill.

Yeah, I hear ya about filling up being a pain

I think we're all in the same boat with filling up. I can usually fill it pretty fast when empty, then when it starts getting close to being full, I start inching it out slowly while easing pressure on the handle. Works pretty well for me & once it cuts off, I pull almost all the way out & give it one more quick burst & call it a full tank. Takes longer than most, that's for sure. I have no clue why, but when I asked my dealer when I originally bought the 2010 RT-S, he just said it was due to the design and angle of the tank.

WOW!!! RECORD MPG's for this last tank. Is this Star-Tron at work?

Im almost speechless. We've rarely seen over 30, less alone 35
But the pics don't lie

I went to PeP-Boys, Advance & Nappa auto parts stores today at lunch to pick me up a bottle of this miracle fuel elixir & you woulda thought I was asking for a 3legged Hot-Pink Tinacled Alien with the way they all were look'n at me:shocked: They all had plenty of fuel-addiditve stuff on their respective shelves, but when asked, none of them claimed to have even heard of this stuff:dontknow:

Oh well, their lossnojoke Guess I'll just have to order it from their website, thanks again for the link Andy:thumbup:

Is there such a thing as the PERFECT ALL WEATHER TIRE for the RT?

IMG_20110912_211444-1.jpgIMG_20110912_211436-1.jpg
Almost 31 MPGs this tank & that was with having almost daily starting issues due to the bad Throttle Body. I'd have to ryde it rough for about 10 minutes before it would warm up enough to restart without the rough idle/check engine lite on. So, now that that's behind us, I'm hoping we'll get even better MPGs now that we're all smoothed out again ;)

On a similar note, we're at 14,500 miles & the rear tire & brake pads are at the end of their useful lives. I've read many posts on here about switching to a car tire for the rear. Any suggestions for a specific tire, that would fit the RT, be good for all weather ryding INCLUDING WINTER& get good fuel economy? I know, I'm ask'n for alot, but im curious if such a Beast exists that anyone knows of?
