Personal Best Yesterday*165 Miles on 1 Tank*I challenge other Ryders to try

On our trip to SITR, we had one leg at 36.889 mpg - that's 243.47 miles. Overall, we hit 31.43 mpg or 207.44 miles. Note that my gauge was below the red line, and the idiot light comes on at 125 miles, or just over 3 gallons used. We verified that several times, but actually went 204.6 miles before our Trinidad fill up and used 5.88 gallons. My riding partner had one tank of fresh non-rubbish (no ETOH) premium gas, and got 46.8 mpg out of that, while I got 36.889 (using Star*Brite) - you can see the cost of being PC.

I need to find a boat dock close by…..

For Dave and Scotty

I am getting 29-31 mpg consistantly. As I said, it seems I shift at 3,500 to 4,000 as that is when BR1 says it wants to. I rode last Saturday with fourteen others and this seems when I do my most shifts.

Scotty, I called my dealer last Thursday and made an appointment to get the upgrads done. I asked that they order the brake upgrade and hope BRP has it. If not, I will go back when it comes in.

:spyder2:

If you fill your tank to the top and drive like an adult, there's no reason why you can't go 175/180 miles on a tank.
Most times my low light wouldn't come on till 165 miles. [08Sm5]
:dontknow: My 2011 hits the light at about 120-130 most of the time. Freeway driving quite often, but adult freeway driving at the speed limit. My 2010 Spyder was worse, hitting the light at 90-100 miles. A lot depends on the Spyder, and even more depends on the gasoline in your area. The ethanol kills us here, as do the some of the seasonal formulations.

Best tank so far is 184 miles, with 1 bar left, sweating bullets the last 20 miles 'cause I'd never had to push it like that before. 5.5 gallons to fill.:ohyea:

I don't disagree with you about an RS, but in your blanket statement, your lumping in apples to oranges my friend:lecturef_smilie:An RS is 230 pounds lighter than an RT (Dry weight 699 to 929) not to mention the increased size difference of the RT over the RS & also the decreased aerodynamics of having the large shield & wind deflectors.

:2thumbs:Wow, that's the BEST I've heard of so far, Good for you!!!:2thumbs:

Last tank, no record breaker... Tried to out-run a STORM -LOL

152.2 miles
5.1 gals. of 87 octane
29.84 MPGs
Average speed 35
Saddle time 4hr20min

Didn't fair as well as I have been lately, but that's due to my own fault. I had checked the radar before leaving my friends house, & it looked like we had a good 30 minutes before the storm hit, so I headed out & was heavy on the shifting trying to get home before we got caught, cause i didn't have teds rain top with us. Alas, the storm came faster than I thought & the last 15 minutes was in a horrid downpour:( Can you say "WET DOGGY":roflblack: Needless to say, Teddy gets to skip his bath for this week:clap:

Actually had my first slip-n-slide on this Ryde as well. Nothing major, just kicked the rear tire out sideways a couple of times going over a small hill while in a turn. While in Lake Placid with Arntufun, when we were trying to figure out our milage differences, Randy noticed my rear tire (like his) is just about shot:yikes: I was like, huh, what are you talking about, look at all that tread depth there. (as I was pointing to the outside part of the tire) When he then enlightened me to the flat center portion that was almost even with the wear bars

I can't believe with as much as this is discussed on here that I was totally oblivious to this:lecturef_smilie:I thought I was good about checking everything, but whenever I checked the tires, I just looked at the outer most part of the tread, instead of the center:sour: Being that I'm still a relatively new Ryder with May26th being my first full year, I'll rack it up as a lesson learned;)

Now, time to start researching my best tire alternative, seeing as how this is my daily driver & I drive all thru the winter with Ice & Snow as well. Any suggestions? Would be nice to get something that would be great in all weather conditions, still provide a supple Ryde for all those long distance road-trips we take, and also be good on the fuel economy to boot:clap: I'm not ask'n for much, am I?:roflblack:

38.614 MPG on this 2662 mile trip thru CA & OR

OK I am back home in Chelan, WA..total miles traveled 2662: MPG for the trip: 38.614. Ms Spyder is a 2010 RT SE5...I usually travel 3-5 miles above speed and really try to avoid freeways...but have no issue rolling along at 70-75 when on one...really try for the back & scenic roads. Good to be home...

Karyl, that's AMAZING!!!

:2thumbs:I think that's the best Avg. for the amount of miles that I've EVER heard of :congrats:
:dontknow:Can you describe your Ryding style (shift points/cruise/braking???) for all of us that aren't doing as well:lecturef_smilie: but would maybe like to try what you do, to see if we can maybe do better ourselves :hun:

I realize every :f_spider: is going to be different and maybe we can't all do as well as you, but after improving 5-8 MPGs with trying Bobs Ryde'n style, I'm game for trying just about anything:thumbup:

Parking Brake and 2011-9

What is 2011-9 (parking brake)?
A number of us have had a problem where the parking brake cable doesn't retract
properly but instead bunches up and comes off the pully. For a year or so BRP insisted
that the problem was misalignment of the cable. Those of us that have had the problem
know better. Lamont came up with a fix and I modified his fix for my trike. Ultimately, though,
BRP decided that the return spring in the rear hub wasn't strong enough to pull the cable
back into its sheath. They finally issued 2011-9 which specifies a stronger spring. The bulletin
only addresses 2011 models but the problem shows up on 2010 models too so I suspect
it will be covered under warranty.
I got mine done at the dealer yesterday. They say it should be covered.

Just interested in finding out my mileage. 2011 RT-S with 250 miles on the clock. Gauge showed 1/4 full. I had traveled 115.9 miles since last fill. Squeezed in 3.49 gallons and level was just below the filler neck. Not disappointed with that mileage. I am sure it will get better as everything get broken in.

Mileage

Has anyone tried 87 Octane + Octane Boost. That should get rid of the pre-ignition problem but I wonder if the cost is worth the effort. It seems to me that 20 cents per gallon difference in cost between 87 and 93 Octane would amount to a savings of around $1.30 per tank. I think the portion of Octane Booster that gets used is somewhat less than the $1.30. It might also be prudent to check mileage under these conditions.

A little bit of experimentation...

Well I decided to "Unleash The Hounds" over the past several tankfuls. Instead of upshifting at my normal 3200 rpm or so, I wicked it up let 'er spin a bit... and my mileage dropped... 31 & 33mpg for those tankfuls instead of my more usual 34 to 37mpg...
I did take one trip to redline in 3rd gear while passing a manure hauler... WHEEE!! :2thumbs:

Think I've found my new Avg. Now, how to get even better?

Here's the results of my last 2 tanks:

Tank 1:
Miles- 143
Gals. 87 Octane- 5.0
Avg. MPGs- 28.6
Avg. Spd- 27
Seat Time- 5hrs12mins

Tank 2:
Miles- 159
Gals. 87 Octane- 5.5
Avg. MPGs- 28.9
Avg. Spd- 36
Seat Time- 4hrs20mins

Seems I'm getting a bit more consistent, leveling off right around 29 MPGs, which isn't a heck of a lot better than 24-26 I was getting, but hey, every little bit helps & this was all just from a change in shifting patterns.

Next I'll try this additive y'all keep Talk'n about. Can someone tell me the exact name/name brand/size/color of bottle to look for? I stopped by Pep Boys yesterday, but I was like a deer caught in headlights, never seen so many different choices & I didn't want to get the wrong one. None that I saw were specifically for motorcycles, is that correct? How much to add at each fill, an entire bottle for each tank? I don't think that can be right, otherwise we'd just be throwing our hard earned $$ away. Why not just get the higher 93 Octane then?

I'd really appreciate it if someone could help educate me & tell me what you've been using, how you've been using it & the (hopefully improved) results you've gotten from it. I'll follow along, try it also, & share my results here to see if there is any actual benefit for myself & others will know if they'd like to maybe give it a try as well.

Thanks;
Dave

33.209 miles per gallon, not bad at all for new.

Thanks for the details, but is this stuff on double secret probation, or what?

Starbrite Star Tron seems to be the most popular by a lot of Spyder and Bike riders that have high pressure FI system. I started this week using it, so should be able to report back in a week or so if it made any difference. http://mystarbrite.com/startron/

I went to PeP-Boys, Advance & Nappa auto parts stores today at lunch to pick me up a bottle of this miracle fuel elixir & you woulda thought I was asking for a 3legged Hot-Pink Tinacled Alien with the way they all were look'n at me:shocked: They all had plenty of fuel-addiditve stuff on their respective shelves, but when asked, none of them claimed to have even heard of this stuff:dontknow:

Oh well, their lossnojoke Guess I'll just have to order it from their website, thanks again for the link Andy:thumbup:

Home Depot carries it in the lawn and garden area .... 6.99 for an 8oz bottle that will treat 48 gallons of fuel ( 1 oz per fill up), at least that is where I bought mine at. Tractor supply also carries it as well.

Thanks Stutzmason

I'll give them a try tonight & see what kinda responses I get from 'em. Hopefully:pray: someone will know exactly what I'm talk'n about & say, "Yup, we got it right here!":2thumbs: Hey, a man can hope, can't he? My luck right now tho, I'll just get more Crazy Alien Looks:yikes:

:roflblack:See what happens when I DON'T have Teddy with me:roflblack:

A 1st for Me - 5 Gallons of Gas

I just disconnected my analog gauges on my RTS as the third gas gauge I have started bouncing. The analog gauge would be on empty at 120 miles and the low fuel light normally came on anytime after 120 miles. I normally would only need 4 gallons to fill up but today with 120 miles on the tank I still had 2 bars and the low fuel light didn't come on until 135. I actually put in 5.1 gallons of fuel and got 28 mpg. I feel a lot more confident in how much fuel I actually have now with the digital display.
