Pedal Commander Bluetooth Connection Issue and Question

I am reaching out to the forum to see if anyone else has experienced the same issue I am having with Bluetooth connecting my Pedal Commander to my 2022 RTL

I purchased a used Pedal Commander from a person here on the forum who lives about 10 miles from me. I installed the device on my 2022 RTL and the unit as it self works fine.

The issue I am having is with the Bluetooth connection. I downloaded the app and printed out the directions so I could follow them to a "T". My phone saw the device and then it said that the Bluetooth was disconnecting. So last night I watched a YouTube video and it pointed out that no other devices can be connected to my phone when connecting to the Pedal Commander. So today I unpaired my bike from my phone then went in and cleared out all my cache and history on my phone so it was clean. I then tried connecting to he Pedal Commander again and after 4 or 5 times SUCCESS!! Well that success was only momentary, I shut the bike off and walked away from it for about 30 minutes and then went back and tried to connect again and it was a big NO GO, until that is that while it was trying to connect I pressed a button on it to change the tune and success it connected.

I wasn't happy with that so I did the same thing 3 more times to see what was going on and it would only connect if I pressed a button on the device while it was trying to connect.

Something has got to be wrong, because the whole purpose of having the Bluetooth is to be able to hide the device and use my phone for controlling it. Correct??

Any help and assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You might try using a BLOCKER in your USB line, works for some apps on my 2020RTL........Bill

I called Pedal Commander today and their tech person informed me that their instructions say not to have anything connected to your phone when trying to connect to the Pedal Commander. I didn't have anything connected but in order to get the device to pair to my phone I had to delete all my connections from my phone, then clear the cache then install and pair the Pedal Commander and once it was paired I could then re-install all my other connections. Picky damn thing that Pedal Commander is.

Do NOT charge or hook-up your phone VIA the glove box USB without a USB data blocker. The data blocker eliminates the problems of connecting your blue tooth device. ( solved my problems anyway)....Bill

Campermac, that advice from tech support doesn’t make any sense to me. I did not have to unpair anything when I first paired my Pedal Commander, and as soon as I turn my key on, my iPhone can access my Pedal Commander and make changes (I just did it to be sure).

As per what Knizar says above, are you plugging your phone into the glove box USB? If you are, then BRP Go is taking control of your phone at startup, and since Pedal C is not a BRP Go approved app, odd things would happen.

Can you confirm a couple of things……
Are you actively using BRP Go? If yes, then you are going to have issues with Pedal C (and any other non BRP Go approved app) as Go takes total control of your phone via the usb cable.
Are you plugging your phone into the glove box usb?

If you are not using BRP Go, and want to have BT connectivity to Pedal C, you need to either install a separate USB port, or need to buy a cheap data blocker to put between your phone cable and the glove box usb.

p.s. I do NOT use BRP Go, and have a blocker on the cable so I can leave my phone in the glovebox, charging……

"no other devices can be connected"
A device listed under Bluetooth's NOT CONNECTED until it is ACTIVE and ALL those devices on your iPhone should specifically say, NOT CONNECTED!
Nes Pas?

I do not plug my phone into the cable in the glove box for anything. I have a Tackform mount on a Ram ball on my left handlebar cuff and a really neat power unit mounted there as well, that way I can use my phone for music as I am riding down the road https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Waterproof-Motorcycle-Charging-Cigarette/dp/B07K8LFS1L. I even ran a USB cable down the handlebar harness and back up to the right side where I have my GoPro mounted on the right handlebar cuff so I never have to worry about the battery going dead half way up the tail of the dragon. I do not use BRP GO and have uninstalled it from my phone, I use a Garmin Zumo 595. I do use the audio cable and have an extension cable from it run down to the Garmin harness and plugged in there so I have GPS audio thru the speakers.

How odd, Campermac:dontknow:. I can only repeat that my phone (I have an iPhone 8) is BT to my Zumo XT immediately on Spyder startup, and is also BT to FOBO (pre startup) and also to my helmet communicator and electronic fuse box. All those BT connections were in place when I initially paired my Pedal Commander to my phone, and changing settings is a simple as starting the app. Obviously, there is a fly in the ointment somewhere, but where?
