• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Passing it on- Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) Update

883

^ This.

For the first time since buying the Spyder, I found myself looking at another bike. The H-D Sportster Iron 883 looks awesome. I feel so dirty...

Had one of those once----Kinda like riding a chain saw. May be better now.:dontknow:

I had an 883 - not that I rode it far - cool looking bike but rode like a rock. Your butt is gonna hurt.

I guess if Toyota and Honda have a recall it makes some people feel good??
This is a Spyder Forum Who cares what Toyota/Honda does or
doesn't do?
The only thing you should care about is what BRP does or
doesn't do.

Hummmm ... will you still not care if you are being tailgated by a Prius while Spydering or followed by a Camery?

My son just bought a used 2009 883 Iron. All flat black. Wow what a retro looking great ride.
The ride is better nowadays, as well as the progressive shocks mod that have been installed on it . Its coupled with a screaming eagle snorkel. Only other bike I have ridden since the spyder...
H-D did it well this time . Now for those Vance and Hines black pipes.

Why is it so white out the window?:yikes:

Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) Update
BRP is fully aware of the concerns and opinions expressed by its valued customers and find them essential to our ongoing efforts to improve the quality of our products. We are thankful to all those who have taken the time to give us feedback on their riding experiences, overall product features or reliability.

Since owners started to voice concerns about their DPS units, BRP technicians and engineers have been in the field talking to several of them in order to assess and understand the nature of their complaint. In November, we released a statement letting the owner community know we needed a few more weeks before concluding our investigation. Due to the low number of cases, and the small frequency of occurrence, this investigation has taken more time than initially planned, but rest assured we will inform you as soon as we reach that conclusion.

In the meantime, BRP would like to once again stress that every Spyder owner should have his or her Spyder updated to the latest software that was the subject of the DPS recall in July 2009. And, we cannot stress enough that one should not remove the fuse powering the DPS unit as this can only worsen the situation described in the July DPS recall notice.

We at BRP are sensitive to the frustration some of our most valued and passionate Spyder owners are feeling with this situation. Please be assured that we will keep you and your dealer posted when more information becomes available.

Thank you for your
continued understanding and support,

The Can-Am Spyder After-Sales Support Team

Lamont, thank you for taking the time to post and pass along this communication from BRP.

Cheers.

:agree:

Seems people get off on bashing the Japanese auto makers - even though most of their cars sold here are actually made here. Can't say that about our Spyders------;)

For what it's worth--- every single new car I've ever owned had recalls - and the last 4 cars I've owned were 'American' .

Just shows any company can have production and quality issues.

Lamonster,

Thank you for posting the information. I hope it shows new and potential owners that BRP does respect their customers and proudly stands behind their products.

Thanks Lamont,

My wife has not been very enthusiastic about riding the Spyder since this has come up.

Before this had come up, she would make excuses to ride it everywhere but now she makes excuses why not to ride.

It's an issue of mistrust due to lack of understanding, resolution and response from BRP regarding this problem.

We have not done the recall because there really is no definitive resolution except throw parts at it. Until such time BRP can say explicitly what is the root cause of the problem then the Spyder will remain in the garage. As a note it is supposed to be in the 70's this weekend.

I am usually not one to complain, I will fix oddball problems on my own without question but when the problem is beyond what any do-it-yourselfers can mitigate then it is truly a BRP problem. One that should get top priority.

I see the message as "we still don't understand a fatal flaw but go ahead and keep riding, at your own risk"

I guess I'm done ranting.

Lamont, Thanks for passing this information to us all. Its real good to see this has not become a dead subject for BRP.

Do you suppose (GM) Government Motor is doing something right.

no such luck , almost a million Cobalts will soon be in the shop.......

The Chevrolet Cobalt has been put under federal investigation due to a large number of steering complaints, according to multiple reports. The investigation covers model year 2005-09 Cobalts and 2008-09 SS models, possibly afflicting 905,000 vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has received 1132 complaints about the Cobalt, concerning "difficulty controlling the vehicle, such as departing from the desired travel lane." Most of the complaints were made in the last six months.

Toyota, Ford, Dodge, Honda and now ***** motors recalls, what's a person supposed to do. Are there any recalls on Schwins?

There were literally hundreds of recalls on cars over the past several years. I venture to guess that every manufacturer has had at least one recall in that time period. (Google "car recalls" and get out your calculator) I find it ironic that the government is now paying so much attention to toyota especially since they are now in the car business themselves with the bail out of general motors.
But I digress, I agree with the poster that asked what does the Toyota recall or any other car recall have to do with BRP's issue?

Toyota, Ford, Dodge, Honda and now ***** motors recalls, what's a person supposed to do.

And where does it all stem from? I think I have a bit of an idea. I was looking at Diesel Jettas the other day, mine is 12 years old and getting tired. The amazing thing is that the price of a new one is only $2000.00 more than I paid 12 years ago. In those 12 years there has been a lot of innovations and improvements. The car is now miles above mine in terms of sophistication, torque, horsepower and amenities. To get the same level of automobile back in '98 I would have had to pay somewhere around $10,000 more.

How does a company continually improve a product, all the while keeping workers happy with good pay, benefits and pension plans, while keeping the product priced low enough to sell, yet keep overhead low enough to make a profit? They start cutting corners. All the manufacturers have been doing it and now it is catching up. The main problem is that in order to lure customers into the show room, manufacturers by their own design each year have put more and more 'stuff' into cars and trucks to where they are now more gadgetry than substance - because that is what many of us wanted and what many of us were told we needed in order to be happy and safe. And we fell for it. Gizmo's and electronic doo-dads have taken the place of solid parts, longevity and reliability. Todays mid stream car has to mimic what what Mercedes and BMW have to offer without the high price tag. In the past the expensive marques were expensive for a reason. We have been lulled into the belief that every year we need more, more, more. And we keep getting more, more, more. But somewhere we must pay for all the more, more more. Now we are starting to pay for it. Now we are seeing failures at an alarming rate. These failures are not particular to one company anymore. Toyota has a big gas pedal recall, so does Ford, so does Peugeot - because in this era of more, more, more, everyone is using the same components! And the shame of it is that in other places where innovation takes shape these same 'made for a price' components and electronics systems are taken off the shelf used in an entirely different application - and then trouble starts rearing it's ugly head, again, and again. We blame BRP - but they are only giving us what we want. The trouble is they are using what is available, at the price they need to pay, in order to make a profit on what we are willing to pay.

End of sermon.

You don't think that this admin. is gonna hammer the foreign car makers more so as to bring more sales back to gov't motors (GM?). This is one of the reasons why the gov't should stay out of auto and all other private business issues. Oversight is fine...having a financial stake is quite different.

All manufacturers have problems/recalls from time to time...I agree with you on that!

I thought this be a spyder thread....

I think all the cage stuff should be in the OFF Topic area.

Just an Ole man's thought as I don't care about reading about the cage problems, as I have problems of my own and not spyder at least forthe moment..
