• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Passenger records an erratic driver and captures dangerous crash

What would you do if you saw an erratic driver on the streets?

  • Get their attention?
  • Call police?
  • Let them continue on?
  • Pull over so get far away from you or change your route?

This guy followed a bit too closely while trying to film what will probably become a viral video on Karma in action.

“I knew it was coming!”

2:32 on video.

:gaah: The video evidence is nice; these guys should have hung back a bit farther, and kept themselves from getting into this mess.

My ?

I'm curious (and will never have an answer) Why the guy(s) recording did not call 911 and report the erratic driving. I have called in a couple times...reporting direction of travel, road #, mile marker (if possible) and erratic driver vehicle description. Always got calls back from dispatch or officer stating appreciation, etc. Plus I would always give statement. Just saying that's how I roll...seems an accident might have been prevented and a ticket issued if they had dialed.. :dontknow:

I've notified the police of several erratic/dangerous drivers I've seen over the years. A lot easier to do nowadays with cell phones, and 911 being nearly universal. Whether they're sick, intoxicated, distracted, or whatever.................they can certainly kill someone else just as dead as if they'd shot them.

:agree: We had a fellow in our area, who suffered from narcolepsy... Somehow; he still drove!
I called him in, on a couple of occasions, and the local PD would usually find him in a ditch... asleep at the wheel again! :gaah:

Alaska has a program called "turn in drunk drivers." Just call 911 and in most cases the LEO's take care of business quickly.

Never a good idea to try to solve the situation yourself. To many people are "carrying" these days. AK is a very big carry state.

Here ya go. I saw this coming a few miles down the road. I had time to prop phone on windshield. They were "tore up from the floor up."

That car qualified to be sold at the dollar store after that fiasco.

What I Do

If in the right vehicle, I just push the OnStar emergency button and report the driver as being a certain direction from my location and then hang back a good distance. In one case their driving was so erratic, I wanted to get away from them so I exited the freeway. Every time I've done this, probably a half dozen over the last couple of years, I have seen the police or highway patrol catch the idiots before any damage was done.

Best Regards .... Ann

Hi murph,

Re: I'm curious (and will never have an answer) Why the guy(s) recording did not call 911 and report the erratic driving.

Good for you, this is what we all should do.

I called one in just this morning on my up to get my daily coffee & fat pill.

I would have tried to get the driver's attention by flashing my lights, honking my horn, and being a pain in the rear.

It is a two lane rural road, no way to pass. Yeah, it's best to see a crash in your rear-view mirror but in this situation there was no way to safely pass.

Do you think out in the country, the cops would have the time or the ways to stop the driver?

Once they understood the situation, they should have backed off.

The guys did the right thing by making the injured person stay still while waiting for the ambulance.

:agree: I would do the same, since I have ONSTAR in my Chevy Impala LTZ. Deanna

Dee, What year is your Impala? I've got a friend here, who has a 2007 for sale... It only has 58000 miles on it, and is like new!
They are GREAT cars! :2thumbs:
