• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Passenger Comfort

I usually ride two up on my spyder.(2018 RT)
The question is my wifes face is always to close the back of my helmet. Is there a seat that would be designed to help passenger be up higher over . I'm 6-4 and she is 5- 3

That is something I think you would need to have made special. Russel or some seat company like that; that make seats to fit each person, they could probably make one like that for you and your wife. I know Russel makes some that are higher and longer in the back for the passenger; by making the back rest a little thinner it gives the passenger a little more room. Good luck with your search for a solution.

One of the things you have to consider and, for liability reasons aftermarket seat manufacturers probably do, is that with such a size difference between you and your wife there is probably a point above which the manufacturer would not consider raising the passenger seat height for fear of upsetting the CG and therefore possibly the handling of the Spyder.

You can get a thinner passenger backrest. Someone makes one about 1" thinner than stock. Does your wife lean forward a lot? Mine just leans all the way back against the stock backrest. Never had a problem.

On the other hand, getting your wife to change her ways may not be the best idea. I've learned the hard way it's better to say, "Yes dear.":ohyea:

My wife tells me that I lean back to much.
She wants me to sit
more upright.
Maybe a backrest..

A driver's backrest will certainly help. It will limit her seating room if she is a little on the robust size. I'm trying to be careful how I word this.

Ultimate Seats I'm pretty sure when asked they said the passenger would be raised 1 inch that still don't make up the large difference in height between you and the wife.

I'm 5'9 and my wife is 5' we have the BRP Comfort seat and she says all she can see is my fat head. LOL

Ultimate Passenger Backrest
Our passenger backrest is one inch taller than the Can-Am® OEM backrest and is sculpted to give the passenger a little more room front to back.

Our Midrider seat will sit you at the same height and same distance to the handlebars as the stock seat.

Our Tall Boy seat will sit you at the same height as the stock seat and one and a half inches further back from the handlebars compared to the stock seat. The Tall Boy was designed for tall or large drivers and will help if you feel to cramped with your stock seat position.

Now you can have the ride you've been waiting for.

My wife had the same problem. She was always looking at the back of my helmet and wanted more room between us. We have had Diamond Custom seats on our last 2 Goldwing trikes, so of course one for the Spyder RTL got ordered. It is made for our weight and leg measurements, and she had an extra 1.5" added to the passenger seat so she could peek over my helmet. The stock passenger backrest was covered in fabric to match.

Well, the stock backrest was too thick and curved for her, and there seems to be very limited alternative choices. We kept the stock backrest so it can be used if we or a future owner wants to use it and I made a custom backrest for her. I got a stock backrest from a member here and stripped off all the foam, covered it with the seat fabric From Diamond and black vinyl. (pics below) I made a pad from a $5 black foam stadium seat cushion from Walmart backed with the skidplate I had after I replaced it with the LED lighted Spyderpops bumpskid I got at Lamonster Garage. I used a heat gun to mold the skidplate to shape (PPE plastic is easy to heat and mold with judicious application of heat) and glued the stadium cushion to it before covering it with the seat fabric.

She wanted more support higher up on her back, but I liked the look with the pad about where the stock backrest is. I made it adjustable to 2 heights with a slot and hook type system, and Velcro so it could be tilted forward to clear the trunk lid when it opens. It is in the up position when she rides back there, down when the Admiral seat is vacant.

I just got a Chrome helmet so she can what we just passed. I do a lot of U-Turns though. But she's usually asleep back there in the twisties and torrential downpours.

Try a seat cushion under her butt. Very inexpensive and might do the trick.
