• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Parts flying off... WHAT?!?

I like the fishing lead idea. One thing I did was put wire ties on the rubber grommets to keep them from getting lost and haven't had them push through anymore after riding them up. Wish I could get tie through on the big side panel grommets.

Parts

Might try partspitstop.com We ran over a tire tread last summer (couldn't avoid it). Busted a side panel so Lee ordered a new panel from them. That panel was $77. Just a suggestion.

Great Idea!

I use a couple of South Bend 6" wire fishing leaders and some heavy duty twist ties (or small tie wraps). The upper peg has a hole though the bottom attach the side with the round hole there. There is a large hole in the plastic behind the rubber grommet. There I attached the clip end of the leader. It makes it easier to remove the whole panel if the clip is there. 6" is just enough to let the panel hang with out touching the ground. The other issue is when new you had to pry mine off but after the first service they came off easy. I am betting the tech lubed them. I used some Throttle Body spray on the posts and rubber grommets to clean them and they now need a good rap on each one to pop on just like they did when new and a little prying to get it off. Depending on mileage I have heard BRP replace those for free under warranty especially if you tell them you never touched them before.

Nice! Great idea. I have checked mine to make sure all pegs are in the grommets. Also, I use small cable ties to insure the grommets stay in place. It's easy to push out a grommet and then you have less holding it on. I was lucky, I found one of the rubber grommets on the ground after working on the bike. Since then, every panel I take off, I use these small cable ties to hold the grommets to the frame. Even if you push one out, it's not going anywhere, it's there to reinsert into the hole.

Again, great idea! Thanks!

velcro

i really like the idea of the Velcro and when i first put the new vents on my bike i thought about the wind taking the sides off with the wind pressure so i am going to do the Velcro.

I've got Velcro on the top of mine . . . but after reading this, I ordered some 6" 30lb test fishing leaders . . . I also discovered that my dealer must have broken the little hook at the top rear of the left panel, because I've always been very careful about that, always hooking it, first, and pulling on the front tabs, first, to unhook, fearful of breaking that hook . . . The Velcro seems to do a good job, but why take the chance?

the only reason i like the velcro idea is that with the leader the part could crash around b4 you have time to stop and cause damage to it. but i might do both just in case

Better to have a little damage than to lose it.

Thanks for the ideas folks. Although I find the fact that we're even having to discuss this regarding vehicles that cost $20-30k+ a bit ridiculous. :banghead:

Finally got some good news. BRP is going to replace the side panel that came off. Just waiting for it to arrive at the dealer. I'm gonna zip-tie, velcro, and use the wire lanyards on these panels when I get the new one in for sure.

If they are installed correctly they do not fly off. Its usually because at least one of the pins is not pushed in or broken.

Checked both side panels on a few units prepped for sale the other day. None of them were put on correctly. In each case the little clip......was not clipped. Conclusion....poor training...or the assembly guy gets paid piece work.

I disagree I found one of my pins popped on my right side when I checked the oil the other day and obviously I am detail oriented. As I said if you don't have to pound them on the grommets need cleaned. That is the key you should need some effort to pry them off not a little tug.

My Baker Air Wings bolt to the panels, a little more trouble to check the oil (never got the new panel), but no chance of lost panels

I didn't say the grommets couldn't be pushed through, made too slippery by mistakely lubing them, or the pins broken. I said it is not the most common cause. The hooks are not engaged very frequently...especially during assembly and by techs and owners during service.

I wasn't disagreeing with you Scotty but with the point that a properly installed panel will not come off. I KNOW mine were yet I still had the rear pin loose. I have Velcro there at the rear so it was not an issue for me but don't want anyone to get a false sense of security.
