Parking Brake

What happens if I press my parking brake when the bike is moving? I want to see what would happen but I don't want to damage my ryde. If someone has the time and both medical/bike insurance please press it at speed and see what happens and post feedback. :yikes:

Depends, if you're already going real slow, the Spyder will come to a sudden stop. But, if you are going faster (do not know the threshold speed), the parking break will not engage.

The park brake does not work over 6mph, read your manual its mentioned in there :clap:

Actually, the last time I rode, several days ago, my foam grips felt quite warm, like the grip heaters had been turned on. I was rolling along about 45 mph, aimed a gloved finger at the grip heater switch and just as I was about to verify that it was in the center position, heaters off, I hit a bump with the rear tire, missed the heater switch and hit the parking brake switch. Zero, zip, nada -- just kept rolling along. I knew since I was above 6 mph nothing was going to happen -- nothing did. I assume it's the VSS that prevents the parking brake from being activated. It was a one off event that I'm not going to repeat but it was reassuring to know the system performed as the manual said it would.

Thanks, I have wondered about this for the same reasons, hitting it instead of the grip warmer! Never thought to look in the manual dah.....

Been there, done that, left the trans all over the road in pieces, ain't never doing that one again!! :yikes:

Admittedly it was an old Aussie Hydramatic auto with a 'pin in hole' style Park function, and they tell me that modern auto's just won't do that - but I tried it once & it cost... HEAPS!!! :shocked: No-one can say I don't learn from my mistakes!!
