parking brake won't "unlock"

Just got back from a great ride in southeast ohio "triple nickel," and had a heck of a time getting my parking brake to disengage. It felt and looked like I was kick starting the bike. It engages fine, but for some reason I can't seem to push it down far enough to disengage the stupid thing.

Thoughts?

Squirt some WD40 in the mechanism behind the pedal.....that'll most likely fix it.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago and got it taken care of during the 6K miles service. Then I as told that WD-40 alone could fix this!!!

I agree with the oil spray. Just spray on the spring/key that engages in the teeth when you lock the brake. Spray liberally. Then you should be able to unlock it with 2 fingers...it's that easy. I do this each time I change the oil.

I had the same problem on my '08 SM5. The dealer adjusted it good as new under a BRP advisory at no cost. The brakes also no longer squeal, but I have no idea if that fix is related but it would seem to be.

Wd 40, and lots of it, on the parking brake mechanism. Do this at every oil change and I doubt that you will have any further problems.

Your dealer should replace the mechanism for the Parking brake. In the mean time, If you put yoyu finger up under the mechanism where the parking brake is. you wil feel a small round spring. Push it forward towards the front of the bike. Once yhou feel it move, now step on your parking brake and it will release.

I used to call this an extra security feature, until mine was replaced.
