Parking brake! Wont lock/ really weak

I did this a few weeks ago, and its already getting worse again..

adajusted mine,worked like new for 2 weeks also....

I did this a few weeks ago, and its already getting worse again. Will the cable keep stretching until I run out of room to move the arm on the spline any further, and have to replace the cable? I've only got 2400 miles, and I don't even use the brake in the garage.

i had the same problem, after fourth adjustment works ok.

okay, so my parking brake is not working again and when I go to adjust there is barely any thread left for the back nut.

How do I adjust the arm?

there are like 4 threads, then a space, and then tons of thread left....

does anyone know what I am talking about and can help?

remove the parking brake cable
Remove the Spring
Remove the Bolt holding the Arm.

The Arm attaches to a Spindle Shaft on. What you want to do is adjust the arm to make it tighter. To do this you turn it clockwise. Once you get to the point where it stops. You want to remove the arm and re-positon it so it is in the same position it so it is almost or touching the stop.

Now just put it back together. You will need to re-adjust the cable. Odds are, it is now too short.

Leave your SM5 in first gear when you stop. There'll be no rolling down slight inclines if its left in gear.

I also carry an inclined door stopper from Walleyworld. 98 cents, only problem, I forget to retreave them and have lost 2 already! Will get a string put on it when I get to Hazelton, PA at friend's house.

Great idea:thumbup: But the first time you forget, after putting the string, you will have the first Spyder with a tail!

It had rolled about 15 feet down the slight incline...I was able to get it, start it, and reverse it back up to the pump, but the incident was a bit embarrassing. quote]

I leave it in first gear, too.

My husband, a biker of 25 years, sat on my Spyder in the garage and started it, and it leaped forward and almost hit the chest freezer before he grabbed the clutch. He turned to me and said "Somebody left it in first." To which I replied "Somebody forgot you ALWAYS pull the clutch when starting a bike!" :roflblack:

Spyder should not have been able to start in gear with the clutch out. Have your dealer check your clutch switch.

:agree: Very dangerous.

I just wish the SE5s would remain in gear when you turn them off. I have been using Dudley's recommendation also to prevent a run-away Spyder because someone walks by and releases the parking brake on purpose or by mistake.

Thank you so much. I took it apart and played around with it until I got it. I kept messing with the spindle until I got to where I think it should sit when the brake is depressed.

Im so happy because this thing has been so annoying, and i cant ever park on any type of incline.:2thumbs:

When adjusting the parking brake, does the rear wheel need to be off the ground like it says in the service manual?
