Many mistakenly think that their SE Spyders automatically select Neutral when they shut their engine down, but that's not really correct at all! :lecturef_smilie:
If you leave your SE Spyder in gear when you shut it down, the
GEARBOX STAYS IN GEAR UNTIL YOU TRY TO START IT NEXT, only you
can roll it around cos the SE Clutch isn't engaged cos the engine is shut down, so there's
No Revs (SE5) or
No Oil Pressure (SE6), which are the pre-requisites for those particular clutches to actually
engage - and if the clutch isn't engaged, then despite the gearbox still having a gear selected, there is no clutch connecting the gearbox to the belt &/or rear wheel, so of course it'll roll freely unless the Park Brake is on or something else is stopping it!

Expanding a little, in this scenario where you've shut the engine down while the gearbox was still in gear, if you try to start the engine without touching the brake, there is a lock-out that detects the
'still in gear' situation, so the computers will refuse to even let you
try to start the engine
until you've got your foot on the brake pedal as a '
just in case' safeguard!
When this occurs (
& only then
) as soon as you press the starter button (which starts the engine spinning
IF you've got your foot on the brake pedal ) the gearbox will disengage the gears from whatever gear you left it in (usually
Reverse because that's where you left it or
First because of the 'Fail-safe downchange' feature that will drop down thru the gears as the revs drop.

) because as your engine starts to spin it will in turn spin the constant mesh gears, allowing them to disengage whichever gear remained selected from when you shut it down without selecting Neutral; at which stage the indicator will change to show that the gearbox is now in Neutral -
BUT IT'S STILL 'IN GEAR' RIGHT UP UNTIL THE MOMENT THE ENGINE & IN TURN THE GEARS START SPINNING, cos it's only once the engine begins to turn that the gears that the gearbox can actually disengage!
And of course, all this is moot & of absolutely no concern at all if you simply remember to select Neutral prior to shutting your Spyder's engine down & so stopping the gears in the gearbox from spinning while they're still engaged!

Simple really, once you think about it.
