Park brake and hand brake

I'm a double amputee and have rode my whole life I lost both legs 9 months ago and thought my riding days were over. I bout a 2011 Spyder RS and I can ride again. It has an ISCI hand brake and an ISCI extended parking brake lever.

Here's my issue. I still have a very hard time setting the brake with my Prostetics leg and the hand brake works great under 20 MPH but at higher speeds it just gradually slows you down no matter how hard you squeeze.

Any ideas on how to extend the parking brake out away from the bike so I can get to it easier and anyone else have any experience with the hand brake and is there ideas on how to correct that?

Any help would be appreciated !

if it would help you I could send it along. There are sponsors here that have extensions as well check them out. On the hand brake I have heard the same. You could check with them (ISCI) they are very helpful and may have a solution...

As far as the hand brake goes , you need to talk to ISCI about a solution........However, I have fabricated a lot of things for various Spyders and I'm sure I can come up with a solution for the Park Brake issue.....I'll make it for free, but You will need to send me a drawing of what you need and the dimensions...............PM me..... I'm sure that if you PM SethO, whose circumstance is similar to yours, he will be glad to help with suggestions.
He's owned Spyders for 5 or 6 years, besides being a good guy. Maybe a little wild.:D

As far as the hand brake goes there are a couple of things to check. First check the brake fluid level in the hand brake to make sure you are not low. Another thing to make sure is that there is no air in the line. Could be that the hand brake line needs to be bled. The last thing is the adjustment nut under the bike may need to be adjusted. If you go on the ISCI web site they have the installation manuals so you can see where the nut is and how to adjust it so you get enough throw and better braking. As the brakes wear you get less throw so less braking, also it may be that whoever installed it didn't adjust it enough to get really good braking.

I had the ISCI hand brake on my 2010 RS for 5 years and always had good brakes.

Thanks for the hand brake info. I'll print the instructions and work my way down the list. My local Spyder dealer wouldn't touch them because it wasn't OEM

That doesn't sound right to me. I recently rode with several amputees who were using ISCI hand brakes on the 2015 RT and the hand brakes were every bit as effective as the foot brake itself... have you had the hand brake function checked out??

i would check your hand brake for a air bubble in the system, i also have one and it works great, now as far as your parking brake, i think some sort of bar, or lever that you can grab with your hand to apply it would work out for you

let me know if you run into any snags. I may be a bit rusty but I did install the hand brake kit on my RS which is the same as yours so I would be happy to try and help with anything you run into.

Jim, I agree with Mike Ard, its an adjustment thing. I've installed a couple of these on RTs. They work well when adjusted. If you were in AR,OK,MO,KS I could help you.

Gary, I'll be in OK for 3 weeks starting the 25th. If I can't get it worked out I may give you a shout. Thanks for the input
