There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Panel O-Rings

tajohn

SPYDER STALKER
When I did my last oil change I lost one of the screws to a panel. I replaced the screw. This oil change as I took the screws out of each panel I put o-rings on the back of each screw after they go through the panel. No more lost screws!

Super idea...

That is a super idea:thumbup:... I am always dropping the screws when I take body panels off.

One other idea... I did it before all of the screws were replaced with Dzus fasteners.

I used stainless steel washers that are bonded to rubber on one side.... from McMaster-Carr... 1/4" ID.

These are good all around, from the plastic to the windshield.

I'll let you know when I get them if I ordered the right part. Should arrive Monday.

I know the first member that posted placed the o-rings on the inside to hold the screws in place when the panel was removed. Do these rubber backed washers also go on the inside of the panel?

I suppose one could but I plan to use them on the outside.

They could go on both sides... as a washer and as a keeper.

Washer

The screws already have a plastic washer on them to keep the metal screw head from scratching the panels. It is very thin and they are expensive from OEM. Already tried o-rings on the outside, they distort when you tighten the screw. Has anyone found them else where? If so let us know!

ataDude,

I understand why you went to the dzus fasteners; but, what was the benefit of going to the bonded washers?

Don't get it

Hey Tajohn:

I do many tasks, adjustments, and minor modifications on my new 2009 SE5 and remove the tupperware often but, so far, I have not lost any screws. I am about to do my first oil change and want to be prepared.

Unfortunately, I do not quite understand your explanation on the function of the o-rings, where they should be located, and how they secure the screws to avoid losing them... :dontknow:

Could you please elaborate on the explanation, and / or post a couple of pics?

Your 2 cents' will be appreciated.

Saludos, Pilo

Benefit: primarily to protect the plastic... both panels and windshield. The very thin plastic washers from BRP tend to disappear over time.

I never did it but... the theory of putting them on the back of the panels... to hold the screws to the panels so you don't lose them... would work as well.

The screws will clear the stainless washer easily... the rubber backing is smaller in diameter and will cause the washer to stay with the screw.
