There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I'd opt for a trailer than use a rack on the hitch.

This is the only application I've ever seen where the hitch is attached to the axle, which makes it completely unsprung. That thing is going to transmit every minor bump to your cargo with absolutely no suspension action to mitigate it. The opposite is true, the geometry is going to magnify it, and the addition of unsprung weight could do funny things to handling.

To each their own though, but I'd caution against putting much weight on it.

Another bump

:coffee: Fyi I acquired a Pakitrak new to me (thx RedRTS)& aside from some trouble getting the hitch ball off (rust) it works well:thumbup: I do have concerns about plate visibility tho & not many options on an ST image.jpg I've asked local Leo's & they advise me to not try in town. My pakitrak contact said they had similar problem with the '12 gold wings but mostly only in FL

I've been quite happy to not have been pulled over on :ani29:Yet & wanna keep it that way:pray:

Harbor Freight trailer.

Some info and if you google this trailer on Goldwing forums you will find a TON of info. Many Goldwing users have these.

Must do:
Repack the wheel bearing PERIOD!
The chain hooks will not work on the Spyder hitch. You need to remove them and use one of these.

Should do:
1) The stock wheels are rated at only 55 MPH. Many used it like this and ran 70 no problems BUT most people bought the larger 12" tires from Harbor Freight.
2) Remove one leaf spring on each side. This keeps the trailer from bouncing a lot with light loads.
3) There are 4 bolts that hold the cargo carrier to the frame. Replace those with "eye" bolts and now you have great tie-downs inside to keep stuff from moving all around in the trailer.
4) The trailer light wires run into the frame at holes. The wires can chaff on the edge of these holes over time. Get some rubber grommets and split them, then put them in the holes to protect the wires.

Options:
Replace stock trailer lights with LED lights.
Yes the cargo carrier can be painted! I have seen red, white, copper, etc out there from Goldwing users.

I have both a hitch mounted box and a harbor freight trailer..........I made my own "pak-it" style rack/box similar to what JT is going to build. So, if your talking about wanting just a little extra room to haul something light and "unbreakable" then go with a pak-it set-up. As mentioned everything will be bouncing/shaking all the time and I found that you could "feel" something just a little different with the handling of the trike. I got a great deal on a harbor freight type trailer and bought it, did some upgrades and love it. The tongue still bounces like the "pak-it" only alot lighter and not such a concentrated bunch of weight in one area. The tongue seems to also absorbs some of the shock by the time it gets to the trailers cargo area. I notice nothing with the handling of the trike with the trailer on [don't know anythings back there] and I'm sure there's less stress on the bike / hitch areas. I can haul just about anything my wife or I want to take or think we might need where as with the "pak-it" not so much. For some reason cant get pictures to load. safe riding!

On my rack I use a dry-bag and put my riding gear and boots in mine. When buying a bag for mounting behind the rear tire keep in mind it will get double or triple the force of water spray back there. If there is any way for water to get in it will ...
