• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Painting a Spyder

I want to have my Spyder painted, but at least one bodyshop painter seems nervous about the plastic body and the flexibility of it.

Anyone who has had theirs painted, can you give me suggestions/tips to pass along to a potential painter? Special paint needed? Special prep to ensure it doesn't crack?? Anything else to know?

Thanks so much!!:chat:

If they are nervous... find another shop. Painting plastic isn't anything new these days and just requires the right paint or paint+ additive to ensure it is laid on right and doesn't crack months down the road.

I am not a painter, but I would think pretty much any auto paint would work as most 4 wheels today are mostly plastic.:dontknow:

Airbrushing a Spyder

What about airbrushing the Spyder hood and fenders. Those of you who have had it done did you remove them for the artist or did the artist do it on the trike? I know on two wheels the tank and fenders are usually removed except for simple pin striping.

If the guy who's going to paint it is not comfortable doing it, you have the wrong guy. I had some of mine done over last winter and will have the rest done this winter. My painter says it real easy, just pop off what you want done and send it--well packed of course. Then it's just a matter of scuffing the parts, doing the graphis and then several coats of clear. Just be sure a high quality paint is used--like "House of Color".
Hope this helps, you can PM me for the name of someone who's really good. :ohyea:I do have more pictures available.

They can use the same paint that they use on cars, pick out your color; take all your panels off that you want painted when their done reassemble your spyder and take it back to them for buffing. This will save you a lot of money. When I was looking for someone to paint mine the spyder dis-assembly intimidates some painters.:doorag:

:agree:Be sure your painter uses a good flex additive in the clear coat as this will help keep the paint more flexable and helps it to not chip as easy and use a good grade of clear coat, and I am a painter by the way.
