• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Paint protection on foot peg frame

I notice on my frame there is a clear plastic paint protector on the frame between the passenger and driver foot pegs.
When I get onto my spyder, I use the rear pegs to climb on. I've noticed I keep getting footprints on the frame, both where the protection is and also past the protection on the paint itself as my feet are looking for the front driver pegs.

Any thoughts on how I could better protect that paint? I almost feel like there should be a rubberized rap around the frame (though it makes sense there isn't, you wouldn't be able to adjust the foot peg position if there was something thick installed)

Frame protection

I have also looked at this as a concern, as I get on my F3S the same way.
I used to have some clear protection on my bicycle back by the derailed, called snake or lizard skin.
It was a clear type of adhesive that would protect the paint. I also have some paint protection on my truck that is clear, perhaps someone
knows where you can get some of this stuff. Then you can cut it to fit on the frame where your boots hit the frame.

My solution is a third peg mount. Been tested over 300 lb man with no flex. Feels very natural for getting on and off the F3

Try this..!!

auto parts have a rock protection (clear) used on the hoods of cars. May be a lot but help a friend...

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk, but isn't the simplest solution just to be more careful?? My Victory had painted saddlebags that people complained were too easy to hit and scuff. So, I was just careful getting on and off the bike. It's kind of like using the door handle on a car so that you you don't leave fingerprints in the door.

There are many Spyder Riders that do not have total control, or range of motion in there legs or feet. This is why they ride Spyders.:clap:

Paint Protection film

Hi guys.. we have the clear paint protection film in stock. It is 8 mil thick and is the same film we use in automotive applications to cover the complete front end of vehicles.
Pretty easy to apply since you install it wet. What size would it need to be to cover the area you are talking about? I am not sure I follow where you are having the problem.
We have sold full paint protection kits for Spyders as well for various customers. Let us know how we can help ..

You can see CanAm already recognized this as an issue, they put a small section of clear film on the frame. In my opinion, it should go further to the foot peg and the attachment of the footpeg could use it as well. I think if the F3 was a smaller machine and easier to get over, it would probably not be a concern for me. But I don't always reach the foot peg when I initially sit down, and my foot makes contact at random points along the frame. If the lighting were better, you could see the footprints all over it.

I also agree with those that say avoiding it is best, I fully expect as I get used to riding the F3 this may become less and less of a problem. But between being a shorter person and the size of the F3, I don't know if that will be enough long term to prevent scratching.

Like I said, I'd almost rather a rubberized grip that pops on and becomes a finished step.

We are in the process of making some optional size pre-cut paint protection pieces that can be applied based on your U-fit 1-5 seating position.
We will let you know when these are live on our site here in our F3 Spyder section. We hope to have it up soon for you.

We are also working on creating a piece that would be applied to the "tank" area between your legs. This is another area
that seems to be of concern.

None of the auto PPF (Paint Protection Film) carriers have patterns for the CanAm (yet), only Ducati and BMW units.
You could get some by the foot, and I'd suggest clear for the gloss frame as you will never see it, possibly their mat
for the black frames. I've checked the XPEL site, who is one of the largest pattern makers. (Suntek does not have it
either)

To apply, just get a spray bottle with water and put in a few drops of Johnsons Baby Shampoo. Spray the area and squeege
out downward or towards the inner/back area. (The water has to escape somewhere). Any itty-bitty bubbles just dont touch
as they will go away in 30-45days. Not hard at all.

Paint Protection film

We have the film available but it is not listed on the site yet.
It would be best for you to call me so we can discuss your project needs.

I would be interested in film for the rear of the tank above the seat and the knee area. Also along the frame rails behind the foot pegs. Do you have these available yet?

I recommend the tank film

I got that put on (by a local "vinyl guy") and it's already saved me from what would have been definite damage from a stranger sitting on my F3-S. I had to go to one of those "outdoor malls" to the Apple store last week and in the short amount of time that I was in the store, someone had sat on my ride. I came out to find a huge permanent scuff on the vinyl in front of the seat.:banghead:

I also have a large ding in the orange paint on the frame near the left footrest where some other person sat on my ride. Anyone know of red/orange touch up paint? I have to go to the dealership next Tuesday for my saddlebag install, I'll try to remember to ask them if it's available.

I've started carrying my old RT spyder sisters bikini cover (which works on the F3, though I'd recommend getting an F3 one if they have it -- the RS or ST versions probably would also work) and now I use it no matter how short a time I'm going into a store.
