Paint for back rest question?

Hi Everyone,

I have a pearl white bike and now want to have the back rest match it. I contacted the US Paint place and realized I didn't need ALL that paint. Just a little bit.

Does anyone know where I can get the paint it would take to cover the back rest? Would it be okay to get the paint from a car dealership?

Thanks in advance,

Terry

I would think that any body shop that's worth anything should be able to match it...
Please let us know what you find, and good luck!

Thanks!!

I got a quote from one auto body place; and it basically would be almost the same price as a new bike rest would cost. $300 (but it would cover all the back rest and the little stand the back rest sits on).

The pearl white is a two stage paint and is costly to make up. I had an auto body paint supplier mix me up a quart to paint my RT 622 trailer to match my Pearl White RT limited and the cost was $206 (that was dealer cost). It also has to be applied in two stages so it isn't that each just to paint it yourself. I had enough left over from the trailer to have the body shop do my dash panel but there isn't any left or I would send you the remainder.

Good luck.

I had some matching paint mixed at an automotive paint store. They put it into an aerosol can for a reasonable price. That should do a backrest easily.

If you need to do a 2-step process, I don't know what you'd need to do with that. Maybe selling it and buying the correct one would be a better choice. Good luck.

Is it because it's a pearl paint? :dontknow:

Yeah. The shop I used applied a silver base coat and then the first stage of white, rubbed it down and then applied the second white stage. I don't know what goes on first, the flat white or the pearl, but one or the other lets the pearl flecks come through.

Just a thought, since I have no fashion sense anyway, why not paint the backrest metal black to match the rubber part. It would look different but still good and only $3.49 for acan of spray paint.

I would LOVE the white pearl for the backrest. Actually considered doing it in black because it would blend in pretty well, but.... I think white would be the best!!

Thanks for all the info. :ohyea:
