• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Well today I received my Can Am belt tensioner and thought I would throw it on. While following the directions to the letter I attempted to remove the side covers. While attempting to remove the larger of the two I was taking out the torx screws and one of them would not come out. It just kept spinning and spinning. I attempted to place the blade of a flat tip screwdriver under the head of the screw in order to keep tension on it to get it out. Well of course with the luck I always have the screwdriver slipped and left a nice 5-6 inch long scratch on the plastic. I then chucked up the T-25 in my trusty Dewalt drill and pulled the trigger. The brass grommet that has the threads for the bolt came out and I was now able to remove the side panel. I then had to find a way to fix all of this catastrophe. I used a little Kiwi leather dye on the scratch. This took out the white part of the scratch (just a cover up, I know it is still there), next I proceeded to re-install the brass grommet. I cleaned out the hole to remove any loose bits of plastic and then applied a small amount of Gorilla glue. Now it is time to wait for the glue to cure and hope that it holds. Its around 40 degrees here and I don't have a warm shop in which to operate. BTW the belt tensioner went on great! :(

I think that anyone who wants to work on their Spyder should buy a heated and cooled shop. (Just Kidding, I have one)

 These sort of things happen to me all of the time... :banghead:
I'm glad to hear that you got everything back under control!:thumbup:

Here is what's sad

I actually have a two shops. One at home and the other where I do small engine/motorcycle work that is heated and cooled. Just didn't think that I would run into this much of an issue with this and didn't want to drive 5 miles to the other shop. Yes, sometimes I'm lazy.

While removing side cover to install fog lights this happen to me. The hex screw was so tight it stripped the brass fitting loose. After installing lights I used some epoxy to refit brass. The screws on my spyder seem like they have used permanent lock tight.

I had a diesel rabbit with 400,000 miles on it WHEN: at 2 days before christmas the starter went.

I got a rebuild starter and decided to put the starter on about 4pm. under the car I went air temp minus 40 below F.
Got the old one out in 20 mins. I proceeded to put the new starter in under the car no jacks.
The starter gear would not line up the the gear set.
I took one stud out then loosen the other. OUT came the starter onto my chest. I was pinned under the car with the frame and the starter.

2hrs later I had calmed down enough that I was able to wiggle myself out from under the care.

When I came in the wife said what took you so long. With Frost bite and a chill up my spine I went up stairs.
The wife thru the supper in the garbage as she thought I had taken off.

OVERTIGHT TORX

It has been reported here recently that newer Spyders seem to have an unusually large amount of BLUE locktite used on the bolts ...... maybe yours was one of them ....... Mike

Bummer...

But all was well with the belt tensioner...that's great. :2thumbs: as for the mishaps..:banghead:..I have found that is just the way the day is going. I find little signs starting with coffee that set the tone for the day. On those days I program the light unimportant stuff...and even that can go awry....:roflblack:

Recap

Addressing the matter of blue locktite, none was found. Not blue, that super duper yellow, or any other color. I just think someone got carried away and used German torque on it "Goodentite". My day started out as any other so that was not an issue. I think had it been a little warmer things may have turned out differently. Nothing likes to work right in the cold, not even me. But, I wanted to get what I needed to do completed and went ahead and done it. Being as I am waiting for the Gorilla glue to dry, I decided to see what I could do as far as engineering some cheap LED lights to use as fog lights. After looking at it from several different angles, I decided to just order some from Lamonster and just leave everything disassembled until they get here..................sigh!:banghead:
