• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Packing and I don't mean clothes (hand guns)

I carry frequently. When you've been robbed, well not actually, he tried, or have been in a public place that was robbed, it makes you want to protect yourself. I can tell you this, Maryland does not have a conceal carry law and if you're caught you will be arrested, even if the weapon is broken down. New Jersey is the same way. There the weapon must be transported in a locked box w/o ammo, even if going to a range and they must be registered. The correct way to transport through a non reciprical state is to contact the state police at the point of entry and inform them that you're transporting. Most southern states have reciprical laws. But I ramble...

I pack

I do a lot of traveling and I do carry 99% of the time . I don't like going into rest areas after dark , especially if they aren't well lit or a lot of people using it. I personally know three people that have been robbed in isolated rest areas and I was personally robbed inside a house I was renovating. The robber was supposedly someone that was interested in renting it. Looking at the barrel of a gun being held by a person you do not know and not knowing for sure what they're going to do is a scary situation.

I have a permit and took the required training to get it which included safe handling , learning the weapon , a written test and a firing test. Having a concealed permit now makes me the guilty one if I do use it and a court of law decides my innocense or guilt. I have to give the other person every chance to let me alone and I'm not permitted to tell them I have it , that is considered threatening them even if they are armed by some means !!!!! I can not legally use it to protect my personal property , only my life.

We had a lawyer lecture to us during the class and made sure we understood that we only have the right to carry but nut necessarily to use it. A non permit user has more freedom to use a weapon in their house than I do . His words were if we used it to tell law enforcement we are shaken up and need medical treatment and not say anything to them about what happened. After getting to a hospital then call an attorney and let him / her do the talking for you.

There are two states that do not permit carry of any kind , Ill and Wisconsin. All others have various conditions. To me to get a permit you need proper training and not just go sign a piece of paper.

Like the attorney stated , it's better to be tried by a jury of 12 than be carried out by six. Hope I never have to use it but if the need arises I will.

PS

Went into Canada one time ( without gun ) but disd have a folding knife in my trunk with a 4" blade. Forgot about it and when the border agent found it I didn't think I was getting back into the states. Carry a gun into Canada and I'm sure you're going to stay for awhile .

No guns in the Peoples Republic of Canada. But not to worry. No violent predators live there. Also, there are no rapists, predators, or murderers in Wisconsin and Illinois which is why you aren't allowed to carry there. Chicago is a very friendly place. Not to worry.

If something ever happened to my wife and kids and I wasn't able to protect them…well, I don't think I'd be able to live with myself. No one will harm simply on a whim. THAT'S WHY I CARRY.

THE best resource for those who wish to protect those that they love is:

I'll probable take a hit for this but why someone feels the need to carry a concealed weapon is beyond me :dontknow:

:welcome:

Well you got a few hits. I'm thinking the starter of this thread got what he/she was looking for. I too think it is an interesting post for a first timer with possibly a vested interest.

I have a CCW and am armed at all times with either an S & W Bodyguard or a .357 Magnum. My wife also has a permit and her Ruger is on her person and her Ladysmith is in the Spyder or in the car. We know when to use deadly force and would not hesitate to do so. Frankly, I don't trust the law enforcement folks in my area to do an adequate job of protecting me. It's not their fault, there are just too many destructive forces looking for easy prey... especially seniors like us.

So, I feel the need to carry... maybe it's a sign of the times or maybe it is a sign that I understand that the lessons I learned in unarmed combat aren't as useful at age 73 than they were 20 years ago. Either way, I am prepared and feel comfortable in that posture.

First-timer only under this login. Been a SpyderLover for a while. Wanted to get this started and I did get the information I was looking for when I began. Looks like I need to find a friend of a friend at the boarder up north to hold a small package for a while - otherwise my little buddy and I are in pretty good shape. As I have said, I am a good citizen, but a cautious one also.

It may be a false sense of security, but if that what it takes to enjoy my trips... then so be it. The information from the group has been very welcomed - I doubt I am the only one who has looked up those sites.

Thank you all for your input, as always a valuable resource. I will be watching, but No Name will be no where in the future (I think).

Thank you for clearing things up for me. I thought you were a troll simply wanting to ignite people's emotions about a subject that is very polarizing.
I would have never thought that someone would create a whole new profile just to shield their true Spyderlover identity from other board members. Or maybe you aren't a Spyderlover and truly are a troll.
