On Tuesday I received a check transmission error across my screen while riding. I ipulled the code p0826. I rode about 100 miles after receiving the code to my dealer. He checked the Spyder with BUDS, rode it around and told me everything checked out fine.
On Saturday I rode about 80 miles and received the exact same error. The bike runs and shifts completely fine even with the error showing and if I shift to another gear the error stops. the code says the shift switch is bad and searching here confirms that. But there have been many people here who have seen the code a couple times and then never see it again. I have checked the oil. It's fine.
I'm supposed to leave tomorrow for a 500 mile ride. Logic says that's probably a bad idea but I think I'm going to go anyway. This issues has never seemed to leave anyone stranded and I may never see the error again. Dealer didn't think it was a big deal but that means nothing. I have the best warranty for 3 more years so it should be covered. I guess it's just a matter of getting the dealer to agree the shifter is bad?
Anyway, should I continue with my plan to ride or bail because the error might show again and cause shifting not to work?
The riding season is short in the NorthEast and bike down time is a PITA especially when you have planned a trip for weeks.
Anyone have any experience with this error?
Its a 2012 RS.
