• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. P081B code, please help

After replacing the battery, I'm getting a P081B code and my 2012 RTL does not start. Acts like the Quick shut down is activated. Any advice?

Per the SpyderCodes app.

-pre-starting relay short cct to Vbat

-blown fuse damaged or disconnected relay

-damaged cct wires, connectors or ECM output pins

-bamaged headlight overrun switch

-check fuse

Best I can do to help and hope it helps you.

Little checking..

Pre-starting relay short circuit to V[SUB]bat[/SUB].Blown fuse damaged or disconnected relay
Damaged circuit wires damaged connectors or damaged ECM output pins.
Damaged headlamp overrun switch.
Check fuse.
See Service Manual
Check relevant connections for dirt, bent pins or unsecure connections.
Circuit wires may have become heated, pinched or broken. All pertinent wires should be carefully ins

you can download the spydercodes app free and it will give you all the code information. I would double check you did not disconnect anything in the process of changing the batt. check all the fueses and connections...should be something minor..

A couple thoughts

As mentioned, Insert Key, Push In, Turn Counterclockwise and hold there while you lift up on the Frunk Lid. Don't forget that you have a fuse box under the seat, also.

Second - If memory serves, there are two separate wires that connect to the positive battery terminal. Red to Positive. You wouldn't be the first to not get them both on.

Lastly, If you disconnected any of those harness connectors back there in order to make room to remove the old battery, double check they all got reconnected properly.

Wondering if he may have yanked on the ground lead replacing the battery and loosened that pesky frame ground connection...
I hope not as that is not easy to resolve...

Bob

Turn key Counterclockwise, that was the key to get the frunk open.

All fuses look good.

Now, I connected 2 negative wires to the battery and ONE double wire to the positive.

Any other thoughts?

Well, yeah. If you take a look at Bob's video from 10:50 to 12:00 minute points, it will show you that there are TWO connections to the positive terminal - one double wire connection - that you spoke of - and another single wire connection from the larger size wire coming from the 60 amp fuse. Good view at time 11:50 - 11:55. So, there are TWO lugs that need to be connected to the positive terminal, not just one, for a total of three wires. The wiring diagram agrees with the video.

Second - a search of the forum for that code picked up one valid post from a couple years ago. It didn't mention that it had anything to do with a battery change, but it did mention that it was a failure of R2 - the Pre-Starting Relay. That relay is in the front fuse/relay box and is labelled as such. Might want to be sure that it is properly seated in its socket, or it might need replaced. But first, let's resolve that positive battery connection question.

The black ground lead goes to a bolt that if loosened you are in trouble.
You are in trouble because if that came lose... All kinds of problems!
And it is not easy to tighten again

Here is a picture of it on the right side of the bike when you lift the seat.
Check it and see if the cable can move under this bolt.
