• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Overheating

Amen to that... the Spyders heat issue isnt with the cooling system, its with the fuel system.. give that mosheen some more fuel and you'd be surprised how your temps will drop.
:agree:I think that's where I am going to focus on first. Should be quick and easy.

Is too lean a mixture...

the reason most of the spyders are only getting 28 to 33 mpg s on the highway. The reason I ask this question is... I have a 08 GL1800 with approximately 33 more hp and approximately twice the CCs and it gets 39 mpg running a 205-60-16 on the rear. I am a "DARK SIDER" on two wheels. The tire I use is almost twice as heavy as the Spyder rear tire. I pose the question because at 39 mpg with a 6 gallon tank on the GL1800 I don't have to stop and fill up as often... more time to ride.

Nah... the real reason is and always has been... I feel the Spyder with a 990 CC engine and a 120 lbs less weight and only 95 HP or 106 HP depending on what day and which article you read should get at least 40 mpg. Now don't mis-understand me "a richer fuel mixture does mean a cooler running engine.

I hope some of the master mechanics will guide me and others because I'll get a fuel controller in a minute if it will really help my machine get mpgs. Yep... I'm the one that likes the mpg's. I have a tire guage... ''being funny on that statement" and :shemademe_smilie: /Ken

I think the low mileage [relatively] Has to do with, Aerodynamics ,Low final gearing, and high idle rpm. So i don't think the mpg can be improved very much with add ons. That said the mileage doesn't worry me, but like you i would love to go farther before i have to stop for gas. Until somebody can figure out how to fit a larger tank in the stock tanks spot, it is what it is.
P/S Some add ons like a tall windshield lower your mpg.

Puzzling...

I forgot to mention that my wing has an F4 +4 barn door windshield and with the amount of stuff I carry weighs 200 plus pounds more than the spyder. If you measure the frontal area of the spyder .vs. GL1800 with the above windshield the frontal area on the wing is larger.

Which drive line is more efficient belt or shaft? Could that be a part of the increase on the wing? I'm just posing the questions because I am trying to learn more and at the same time figure this out. /Ken

Belt is more efficient, shaft is less maintanence. Put a trike conversion on your Wing for a better comparison; a friend of mine with a triked Wing gets about the same mileage I do. He just can't keep up in the curves:2thumbs:.

I don't it's the frontal area so much, For lack of better words, it's un stealth
A arm's, air caching fenders etc. all hanging out there.
As soon as i put on an Fi evo w/wings high way mileage went from 36/38 to 31/33.

I don't know which one is more efficent but I miss the shaft on my VTX...no maintenance was involved (or adjustments).

Now I understand...

the last two post woke me up... now I understand what you are talking about. Aerodynamics plays a big roll in getting the mpgs! Sorry about that fellows... I seem to be slow today. I still have Heat Pump Water Heaters and storage tanks on the brain. Just installed one of the 3.0 efficiency systems since I had to replace the old one. And getting some of my tax dollars back helped to go for the better system. /Ken

O-rings a little tight today, Ken? :D

ATADUDE...

Yep... "O" rings are definitely strained this week. A week where you make a list of parts needed and still have to make 5 additional trips to the hardware store.

I'll tell you one thing... I', oops... we're, "she who must be obeyed" and Jackie, are taking tomorrow off and going riding.:ohyea: /Ken

The Rule of Fours:
Every project will take four times as long as planned, cost four times as muchas you thought, and require at least four trips to the hardware store.
