• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Overheating questions

Last thursday we were headed to The Hub at Marbles Falls Arkansas 200 miles away, 10 miles from the house my wife signaled me to stop, we pulled over and she was on limp mode and the temp gauge was all the way up.
Everything looked normal and had no idea what to do, after a few minutes i oppened the radiator cap to verifie that there was enough antifreeze, of course it boiled allover the place and made a mess, there was enough, minus what spilled, i had a bottle of water so i poured it in the radiator to replenish it.
After letting it cool off a little we started it, with me very close by, we strated looking for an exit to bring the spyder back home, she signaled me to keep going and see what it was going to act like, she signaled me that it was fine and she wanted to keep going.
at the Arkansas border we stoped, the gauge went up!!!!
We checked the levels and everything was fine, we were in the middle of no were and too far from home so we started looking for a place to live the spyder and ride 2 up on the rocket,, to our surprise, it never overheated again, we kept going all the way to the Hub, rode all weekend and everything was was fine, we just got back home safely with no more incidents,,,
Any idea about what happened here???

Randal and Debbie are the best! I have an RT limited and the analog temp gauge always looked to me like the bike was about to overheat. I unpluged it and just use the digital gauge and it is far more accurate. Have never had a problem since.

You are correct, we have been going there for 4 years now, great riding too!
What concerned me was that the limp mode was on , the thermostat simbol was on and the temp bars were maxed out!!,:yikes:

This Spring was 5 for us. I am trying to figure out a way to get back down for a few days before it gets cold. Nothing like one of Randal's steaks after a long day of riding.

You mean the 16 oz rib eye that i had yesterday>? Delicious!!!
Here is what i did;
I switched the headlights relay with the fan relay since they are the same i figured, day time, in the middle of 12 bikes, we can make it to our destination and regroup there, the head lights worked just fine so that rules out the relay, all i can think of is either the water pump or the thermostat, but like i said, after the incident we rode 400 miles without any problems, the problem fixed itself but i have a trip to San Francisco the 26th for 3 weeks and i need to figure it out before then:pray:

If the problem fixed itself after you swapped relays, it may well just have been a loose fan relay.

After i switched the relYs we rode 80 miles, rode fine until we slowdd down and by the time we stoped it was onimp mode again. Did not do anything else to it, after it cooled off we had no choice but to get to somewhere civilized. Everything was just fine after that

How old is your coolent? Is it a 50/50 mix? Have your radiator cap tested. Add 4 oz. of Water Wetter to your coolent. Coolent can go bad in about 2 years. Once antifreeze boils it should be changed. That's IMHO.
