• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

outside winter storage

This winter my Spyder will have to be stored outside. Does anyone have any tips on proper storage. I have the Can-Am outside cover. Is parking on a piece of plywood good enough or should I park on something taller? Should I take the windshield off?

Thanks for your help.

why store it ???? i drove mine all winter :D

I'm in the same boat as well, I'll be interested to see the responses. As much as I'd like to drive it all winter, I can't bring myself to subject the spyder to the salt and sanded roads.

Tough climate to store outside up there. I hear it is dryer there, however. Corrosion during storage is a real problem outside, especially in cold or humid climates. Anything you do to fight it is going to be a ground-breaking experiment on your part, I'm afraid. Be especially aware of moisture build-up from condensation under the cover. To be honest, buying a shed or a Bike Barn type of cover would be better, especially with addition of a small fan or heater.

The severe cold could be a difficulty, too. I would worry about your cooling system without a block heater. Beyond that, the normal things for winter storage would apply. Good article here http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14593http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=2. You might check out some storage facilities or bike dealers in the area, if there are any. They often store vehicles for a nominal fee for the winter. Some will even keep the battery charged, keep the tires up, and detail the bike before it is delivered in the Spring.

Yeah, y'all in the south of NH have it easy compared to where I am in Mount Washington Valley -- about 100+ miles north of Salem.

I will be seeking internal storage (I don't have a garage) because I don't want mine buried in snow all winter.

I you MUST store it outside all winter I hope you are in a climate where it will not get buried till spring . . .

Brandy, steal one of those trailers behind you in the picture you attached.

I agree with Scotty 100%, if you can get it into climate controlled storage, it would be a good idea. Here in the states, there are lots of places like that, some may only cost $15 a month - a small price to pay for piece of mind. In a place like that, you would only need a breathable dust cover and battery tender. Do read what the manual recommends for winter storage and the thread that Scotty mentioned.

Besides the humidity, you may find you also have issues with animals. I plan on riding mine through the Winter, we have big temp swings here in NM, but not the bitter cold for prolonged periods that you have and it is dry - though we do get some snow, nothing like you. My Spyder lives outside in a bike barn as well as my motorcycle.

That works well - perfect for the Spyder. I would have one of these even if I kept it in a garage.

(that is not me or my Spyder in the picture)

Sandwich bag with moth ball rubber banded over the exaust pipe to keep out moisture and rodents. Remove battery and store inside. Top off the gas. If you can, park on jack stands so tire is off the ground and no weight on it (flat spot). Spray down all metal parts with protective BRP lube (they recommand that on the jet skiies but I cheat with WD-40 gonna be a pain to clean off next year though). Wrapp and bungee with a large tarp. I'd do something with the plywood to keep the bulk of the snow off the bike. Good luck.

Tat, if you ever visited northern Alberta in the winter, you wouldn't be asking that question! :lecturef_smilie: The weather there is not fit for man, beast, nor Spyder.

Brandy, doesn't your dealer have winter storage available? To me, it would be worth the small monthly cost just for the peace of mind. I would not be leaving Spydie out in the elements, even with a cover on, in a climate as harsh as yours. nojoke

:agree:NH is like Miami compared to Alberta except Mt. Washington

I live in buffalo and last year I stored mine in an enclosed trailer with the battery tender and a 36" golden rod plugged in. Not sure if it helped or not. I also fogged the engine and gas stablizer
