• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Outrageous Price

I have a fellow spyder lover near me, and he said it took him less than an hour to install his. I have a set of dash pouches to hold my wallet, tissue, etc. I was about to install one of those USB adaptors and chargers on mine. Then I came across a couple of quick chargers for things such as phones or GPS. I keep one in the rear charging all the time, and the other I place in the small side pouch to charge my phone or other device. It was a cheap $5 each purchase which did away with my need for a USB charger.
Good idea!

As some have mentioned, there are many adapters which would plug into the existing 12v outlet. Being I already have a Battery Tender pigtail installed to maintain the battery, I keep the following on board just in case my cell needs a charge.

Outstanding my dear Watson simply outstanding. I am ordering one tonight. My heated gear connect comes up through the opening of the handle bars It is connected direct to the battery and Battery Tender makes a connector that also allows me to plug it in if I want to charge the Battery. Now I can also use this connector to USB charge. I, like Mike do most of my charging in the trunk with a cigarette/USB plug. They work well but can use this as an alternate.

Thanks again for this and the link.

I do all my own work and installs and from experience I can say getting to that spot to install the switch is a major tear down if done correctly and anything electrical must be done correctly. 2 hours would not be unreasonable for removing all of the side panels, the glove box and the switch section then running the wire and hooking it up. I can get it down in about 1.5 hours or a bit less but I am set up with all the tools and have no interruptions. Materials would be negotiable so labor should account for the bulk of the price.

Thanks for the info. I'd like to get a permanent USB switch installed but after reading other posts on this subject I probably will will wait on installing the usb port. Thanks again!

I tend to be a bit of a contrarian so I took a different approach. The problem I see with most all of the available dash mount USB ports is they are not water resistant when there is a cable plugged into them, and I want to be able to power my tablet/GPS even in wet weather. So I have ordered a couple of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X771OPS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00. I will install the power module under the service panels somewhere just behind the frunk and run the cables up to the dash. The USB port on the cable end can be fastened somewhere in the upper part of the dash to help keep it out of the rain. I have had USB chargers create static in the radio so I like to keep them away from the dash area where the GPS audio cable is placed. I don't know if any of the dash mount USB ports will cause static but I don't want to find out either by spending money for one and then find it does.

That's Sort of What I Do

I have a USB connected to the pigtail when I go on long trips. It runs my GPS, and on long highway segments, I turn off the GPS and charge up my mp3 player. My e-book gets charged in the rear trunk, (unless I forgot to charge my phone).
It might be easier if it was a permanent install, but I am still deciding on how I want it.
