• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Our first outing & something for Teddy

MidLifeCrisis

well, we decided to brave it and took our first run out of town up to Payson, AZ on our new to us 2010 RT-S. we decided it was time to brave it, and didn't quite know how to prepair. we quickly discovered it's just way too hot, even withair flowing over us, so we had take a slight detour for some cooling vests. that was a good plan and back on the road we went and another RT zoomed by waving...how cool is that:clap:. Things were going pretty well for the most part, but the twisties were making me a bit nervous. Got to learn not to fight so much and let things go. Easier said than done, but still a good first start. I missed second gear a couple of times and blew the horn, instead of the turn signal, but hey, this is way harder than when the RT is parked.:opps:

So, we finally pull into Payson and found a gas station and what do you know, here comes another couple on an RT and they struck up a conversation. What do you know. prior to getting our RT, i never saw a Spyder, eccept on the showroom floor and in commercials. and there's two in the same day.

We decided to continue on up to Strawberry for some more sight seeing and food. More twisties, but a bit better this time. we ended up striking up a conversation with a few other riders, but when we met this guy, I figured I'd better post this one for Teddy. Hey Teddy click on the video. http://theoasisofmysoul.com/?page_id=62

For some reason, I can't edit my original post!!! Anyway, overall a great experience. can't wait to do it again.:D None of this would have happened in a cage...

Oh! and a couple more things. Do RTs hate anything below 4500 RPM, or is it ,because we just barely hit 600 miles on ours and things take time to break in?

We got 27MPG going up and 36 coming back. there's a pretty significant elevation gain over the 90 mile distance, so the mileage was better than I thouught going. We had all of our bins full too, so we were pretty heavy.

OMG¡¡¡ Did you actually get to meet Ara & Spirit?

Thank you so much for posting this link, Ara & Spirit have such an Awesome story, built out of devastating loss but also out of redeaming love for one another, truly an inspiring life story. IMG_20100930_LickTrain.jpg

Congrats on your first long road trip! The Spyder does come alive around 5 grand, although it will run lower. You will not notice much change as you add the miles. I'm sure that uphill climb wanted a lower gear. I always downshift a notch in the mountains.

He was a real pleasure to speak to, as were the other nice folks we met. we've made the same trip by car several times, but never met anyone. Sure glad the boss talked me into the Spyder. :doorag: I figured folks on this site would enjoy Ara & Spirit's story...especially Teddy. There are quite a few HD videos on youtube, if you search for ara and spirit.

under 5000 rpms

Congrats on the new ride. You'll have fun. The spyder doesn't love low rpms. Over 5000 it comes alive. Drop down a gear and you'll notice a difference in performance.

Twisties....use a gentle touch on the bars , ease into the twisty ( downshift before entering ) and then roll the throttle on coming out. Bracing your knee against the tank and pushing down on the footpeg helps control your body too.

It just seemed strange that the owner's manual says not to run the RPMs much higher than 4500, but the RT does nothing under 5000. it also says not to keep any sustained speed and RPM during the break in period! Oh well, I guess that didn't work out too well either:D

twisties are just going to take me some time. Once I don't have to think about what to do, things should get easier. I just need to get over that strange feeling like I'm going to get bucked off. My wife on the other hand sat in the back and enjoyed every minute, so It's definitely me and not the bike.

That's one of the best side effects, you end up talking to so many people out on the road. That's such a great story about Ara and Spirit, very cool. :doorag:

I tried to stick to the RPM rule when i purchased my bike but that didn't work for me at all lol. My pistons are seated very well and I ran the crap out of my bike from day one. Go ahead and break it in the way you're gonna drive it. I DID!!!! Mine runs like a champ.
